‘On Patrol: Live’ Dan Abrams Targeted In 30K Robbery
A burglar learned they chose the wrong target when they came across a studio filled with expensive audio and video equipment. Little did they realize they were taking from police and true crime show host Dan Abrams. In fact, the criminal ended up giving one of the shows Abrams presents a good story to cover.
The Burglar Ended Up Picking One Of The Worst Possible Targets
Abrams is the host of the police show On Patrol: Live and his studio hosts true crime shows like Court Cam. He also serves as ABC News’ Chief Legal Analyst.
However, Abrams’ Law&Crime Productions studio in New York would find itself the target of a robbery. In a conversation with Page Six, an insider gave a look into what happened.
As the source noted, They were robbed on Sunday… a guy came in with a wagon and took $30,000 worth of equipment and laptops.” Even the equipment Abrams uses for his SiriusXM show was taken.
Given Abrams’ background with law and true crime stories, the criminal’s choice of target ended up backfiring on them. As the insider explained, “They’re the wrong guys to rob. They had surveillance cameras all over the office, so they immediately had pics of the thief!”
Likewise, some of the stolen computers already had trackers installed by staff. Thanks to this, the NYPD was able to figure out that the stolen goods were in Keyport, New Jersey, by the very next day.
There Will Even Be A Special Based On The Incident
The criminal also underestimated Abrams having friends in high places. One of the On Patrol: Live co-hosts, Captain Tom Rizzo was a New Jersey cop and was able to track down the burglar to a New Jersey pawn shop. According to the source, Rizzo was even able to work with the New York Police Department.
Arriving at the scene, the pawn shop owner confirmed someone tried to unload the laptops, but refused to take them. The authorities “looked around, and behind the pawn shop they found the guy with all their equipment.”

Reportedly, the burglar even took some merchandise from Law&Crime, including hats. It is believed that the suspect is currently being held.
For his part, Rizzo also shared the story on Instagram, giving the following caption: “I can’t take the credit. Simply did what I believe LEO’s across the nation do daily…remain steadfast and readily available to JUMP at the chance to help others. There’s NOTHING like the feeling of delivering successful service to a victim of a crime.”
“It’s what we as LEADERS do…place the resources where they belong and believe in their abilities. This is that proof. AMAZING team effort. Classic example of the profound effect of public safety partnerships!!”
As On Patrol: Life follows police departments throughout the country, the incident gives them new material for the series. Reportedly, they are planning a special based on the robbbery and how it was thwarted this Friday.
