‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Ryan Manton’s Winning Streak Cut Short

Fans of Jeopardy! have been tuning into see if contestant Ryan Manton would qualify for the Tournament of Champions. However, his winning streak ended up being cut short thanks to another player. On social media, fans have been reacting with both surprise and praise for the episode’s outcome.

Manton Need One More Win To Qualify For The Tournament of Champions

Fans had previously been won over by Manton for a lot of surprisingly romantic moments on the show. Notably, Manton revealed that his wife Lauren had previously appeared on the game show. In fact, he revealed he proposed to her before the show’s taping.

During Manton’s first two episodes, his respective Final Jeopardy! responses were “What is I Love You, Lauren” and “What is I still love you Lauren.” Both times, despite not having the correct response, his wager was low enough so that he still one each night’s game.

Manton would go on to have a four-day winning streak. This brought him close to qualifying for the Tournament of Champions, which requires a contestant to win five consecutive games.

However, even after accumulating $83,179, Manton might have just met his match in his latest game. He faced off against Mark Fitzpatrick and Anne Singleton.

Both Fitzpatrick and Singleton proved their skills during the game. Fitzpatrick correctly gave the correct response to the second and third Daily Double, solving clues about Georgia O’Keeffe and Babe the Blue Ox, respectively. Meanwhile, Singleton was in the lead at the end of the first round.

The Final Jeopardy! Would Decide The Episode’s Winner

However, it was the Final Jeopardy! that would decide who would win the night. The clue, which revolved around “Literary Characters,” read: “A fragment from a nautical tool found on a Chilean island in 2005 was likely left by the Scot who partly inspired this character.”

Only Fitzpatrick gave the correct response: “Who is Robinson Crusoe?” Meanwhile, Singleton wrote, “Who is Wallace?”

For his part, Manton wrote, “Who is ??” In reference to his earlier appearances on the show, host Ken Jennings jokingly assured that he “still loved his wife.”

In the end, it was Fitzpatrick who won the game, earning a total of $30,401, winning over Manton’s $9,999 and Singleton’s $5,000. As noted by The U.S. Sun, fans took to social media to share their surprise at Manton’s loss and praise for Fitzpatrick’s victory.

As one Reddit fan wrote, “Wow, what a turnaround from yesterday’s game. Whether favorable categories or that ‘final game of the day’ energy that some contestants get empowered by, Anne and especially Mark made it a game while Ryan stayed competitive despite Mark finding all the DDs.”

Another commented, “Still, it’s surprising that [Fitzpatrick] was the only one to get FJ correct. How many books are about surviving on an island? And Lord of the Flies is neither about a single character nor based on true events, which pretty much just leaves Crusoe.”
