‘American Idol’ Jordin Sparks Fulfills Dreams With New Show
Jordin Sparks has brought everything full circle for herself with her latest job on television. She is hosting a show like American Idol, which helped her launch her own career in music. Here’s everything we know about the new reality show so far.
Jordin Sparks Joining Chip & Joanna Gaines On New Show
The American Idol alum will be the host of a new roller skating competition show on Max called Roller Jam.
Jordin Sparks first stepped into the public eye during season 6 of American Idol. She wowed audiences in America and ultimately won the title of “American Idol,” becoming the youngest person to do so.
The “One Step At A Time” singer auditioned for American Idol at 16 years old and brought the title home at 17. She still holds the record for the youngest person to ever win the singing competition.
While Jordin has not done any work on television thus far, she went on to have a successful career. Some of her most popular songs, like “No Air” and “Tattoo” became anthems of the early 2000s. Now, she is branching out and trying something completely different
Roller Jam is being produced by HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines. The first season will include six episodes where viewers get to see skate crews from around the United States compete for a chance at $150,000. There is also a $10,000 donation to their local skate rink.
American Idol Alum Looks Forward To Being Part Of A Competition Again
For her part, Jordin Sparks is excited to be part of a competition show.
“I wanted to be a part of this series because I have always wanted to be a host on a show and I love competition shows,” she told People. “I was born there, I guess.”
The American Idol alum continued, “I feel like at this point in my life I am able to pour into others that are in it now. I understand what they’re going through.”
That said, Jordin Sparks doesn’t have any deep knowledge about skating or hidden talents. However, she is enjoying seeing the competition play out. She said that she loves and appreciates the pressure in a show like this.
“When you come [to the filming location], you’re not where you’re from, you don’t really have your family with you and you have to practice every single day and compete against other people and be judged and you’re tired, there’s so many different things,” Jordin said.
Being around the competition triggers some anxiety in Jordin too, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to make it a good experience for the competitors. She said that she tries to “absorb a lot of the tension” so that they can have a better time all around.
Jordin Sparks will be joined by two judges on the new show. Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir and roller skater Terrell Ferguson will be judging the competition. A third guest judge will join them each week as well.
Roller Jam premieres on October 10 on Max.
