Stephen Nichols was close with Drake Hogestyn on-screen and off. He took to his Instagram to share a heartbreaking tribute. “My dear friend, Drake Hogestyn has passed. This loss is overwhelming… Drake would tell me about his history, playing baseball, coming to Hollywood, getting into acting. He also shared triumphs and a few heartaches having to do with his long career on Days with such honesty,” he wrote.

The tribute continued, “I kept in close touch with Drake throughout his illness and even through his darkest times he always threw in an optimistic phrase like … “not much positive to report, but I still believe in Santa.” Drake fought hard. That’s who he was. A man with an iron will, who would not give up.”

Stephen Nichols ended the post with John Black’s catchphrase, “You worked hard and left us a legacy of beautiful work. Rest easy, partner. I’ll always love you and I’ll never forget what a positive impact you’ve had on my life. That’s a fact.”

Deidre Hall Breaks Silence On Co-Stars Death

John Black and Marlena Evans are one of the soap couples that deserve the ‘supercouple’ name. Their torrid affair had viewers glued to the screen in the early 1990s. In perhaps one of the most iconic storylines, Marlena’s daughter Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) walked in on her mom and John Black. The affair spawned the birth of Belle Black. “Jarlena” eventually got together for good and have stood the test of time and a lot of drama.

Drake Hogestyn joined the show in 1986 and worked with Deidre Hall for nearly four decades. She shared a statement with Access Hollywood four days after news of the actor’s passing.

“For nearly 4 decades, Marlena Evans and I have loved the same man. Marlena’s John is an iconic hero, unfailingly rescuing her from all matter of villains. My acting partner was incredibly professional from the moment he entered the studio; flawless in his preparation and ready for any eventuality in any scene.”

“He was gracious and kind to everyone, from the executive staff to the night crew. Drake loved what he did and adored and respected everyone with whom he did it. Having said that, we always knew that his two greatest loves were his family and the Yankees. Victoria and their children were truly the center of his life. Drake is dearly loved by everyone who ever knew him and he will be missed beyond measure. We will continue, as he always encouraged us, to swing for the fences.”
