Kathie Lee Gifford Reveals Rough Recovery After Surgery
TV personality Kathie Lee Gifford gave fans an update as she is recovering from surgery. Taking to social media, she shared a photo of herself since her procedure, explaining how she feels. However, she’s also recently revealed that she learned the hard way that the recovery process isn’t an easy one.
Gifford Shared A Photo On Instagram
Gifford first came to prominence on the talk show Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee. With Regis Philbin, she co-hosted the show from 1985 to 2000.
For 11 years, she later became known as a co-host on NBC’s Today‘s fourth hour, entitled Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda, with Hoda Kotb. Gifford previously announced her departure from the show in 2018, being succeeded by Jenna Bush Hager.
In a post on Instagram, Gifford shared a photo of herself playing with one of her grandsons. As she wrote in the caption, “Beyond happy to be home with my precious little guys.”
“Want to thank all of you again, who prayed for me so much when I was in the hospital. Now I’m running around like a teenager healed by the grace of God and the prayers of faithful friends. Thank you so much shalom shalom.”
Gifford’s Active Lifestyle Worked Against Her Recovery Process
Since the procedure, Gifford has learned that the recovery process could be the real challenge. With various outlets, she learned the hard way that she couldn’t immediately go back to her previous lifestyle.
As noted by Closer Weekly, Gifford revealed she underwent hip replacement surgery back in July. While appearing on Today, she shared, “My doctor finished the surgery, came in to tell me it went beautifully, and then he said, ‘Kathie, how have you been existing all this time? [You had] some of the worst hips I’ve ever seen.’”

As the publication noted, a fall at home caused Gifford to be hospitalized again after her pelvis broke in two places. Talking to People, Gifford also explained how recovery was a challenge for her. As she explained, “I walked, I climbed, I walked, and my doctor said, ‘Kathie, no. You have got to realize that this is serious.”
“And I was off my walker in two days. I was off all my medications in three days, and then I did too much. I just did too much because that’s who I am.” As she continued, “I started carrying books around and signing and getting ready, and my grandchildren came to visit.”
