A memoir about Kim Porter just came out in September. However, there is a huge problem with the book. It is being called out as a fake memoir by the people closest to Kim Porter. Sean “Diddy” Combs shares children with her, and his lawyer says it is not real. Also, Porter’s family is considering legal action against the author.

Here is what you need to know.

Kim Porter Biography Called Out As Fake

A Kim Porter “memoir” was released on September 6. There is one problem. This is not a memoir but is a non-authorized biography by someone whom Porter’s family says has no access to her personal information. The book is called Kim’s Lost Words, by an author calling himself Jamal T. Millwood.

Another problem is that there is no such person as Jamal T. Millwood. That is the pseudonym of an author named Todd Guzze, who also uses the pseudonym Chris Todd. The official author description on the book says it was written by Jamal T. Millwood for Kimberly A. Porter.

There are now reportedly level actions being taken against the author for claiming it is a “memoir,” when Porter never authorized the words in the book. Porter died six years ago. The author claims the book is “A journey for justice, from the other side…

The author also released the book on September 6, as the feds were investigating Porter’s ex, Sean Combs. Two weeks after self-publishing the book on Amazon, police arrested Combs, and the book reached number one on the Literature & Fiction list.

PEOPLE looked at the book and found countless typos and inaccuracies. It also included graphic descriptions of sexual encounters with Sean Combs and other celebrities. It also included descriptions of physical abuse against her. However, Porter’s family and Combs’ attorney asked where Todd got this information.

Kim Porter Biographer Defends His Book

The book has been removed from Amazon, and if the site decides that the book breaks Amazon policy, Chris Todd won’t get any money from the sales that helped the book climb to the top of the sales list.

PEOPLE reached out to Todd, and he defended his book while also referring to himself in the first person. He said, “Do you think Chris Todd would risk his ass and rep on something that was fake?? Number one on Amazon.” As mentioned, that won’t matter if Amazon decides he broke its self-publishing policies.

Rolling Stone also reached out to him, and Todd admitted he couldn’t prove if his book was even true. “If somebody put my feet to the fire and they said, ‘Life or death, is that book real?’ I have to say I don’t know. But it’s real enough to me,” Todd said.

That might not matter. As mentioned, a source close to Kim Porter’s family said they seek all their options, including legal action. Since Todd has no publisher, he would be liable for any damages.

“Kim Porter never authored a manuscript, and any claims suggesting otherwise are entirely false and fabricated,” the source said. “The baseless pages in the book not only misrepresent Ms. Porter’s lived experience and legacy, but also continue to cause unnecessary distress to her loved ones.”
