Kristen Bell Allowed Her Small Kids To Roam Alone On Vacation
Kristen Bell revealed that she made a questionable parenting decision while on a family trip to Denmark recently. The Veronica Mars alum shared her mom “hack” for traveling with kids while speaking with Jimmy Kimmel, but it seemed rather dangerous. Keep reading to see what she did.
Kristen Bell Set Her Kids Free In Denmark
Over the summer, Kristen Bell, her husband Dax Shepard, and their two daughters, Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9, traveled to Denmark.
“We try to travel with the kids every summer somewhere where we just say we’re going to pick a place on the globe and we’re not going to know the language, we’re not going to know the smells, we’re not going to know what the food is like,” she said this week on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “We’re just going to see how other people live and we’ll observe.”
However, Kristen Bell said that parenting made her realize that you never really get a vacation. “You’re just watching your kids in a different city,” she told Jimmy Kimmel, but she found a way to still get some kid-free time.
“The hack is when we went to Copenhagen, we stayed at this hotel that was right at Tivoli Gardens, which is like a 7-acre theme park. It’s an old one,” Kristen said.
She continued, “The hotel opens up into the theme park and so we just were kind of like, ‘Are we going to free-range parenting and roll the die here?’ They woke up at, like, 6 every morning. They scanned their bracelets to go outside. [We] didn’t see them for seven hours. Just running around Copenhagen.”
Not All Vacations Are Hands-Off For The Actress
Looking a bit surprised, the host asked Kristen if “that was okay.” Laughing, Kristen Bell said that everyone returned home to the United States without any problems.
The actress then detailed how she and her husband spent their time without the kids. “It was heaven,” she shared. “We just had coffee. We played Spades, and then around 3, we’d be like, ‘Anybody see them?’ And then one of them would run up and need a Band-Aid or whatever.”
Earlier in the summer, Kristen Bell joined a camping trip that Jimmy Kimmel hosts each year in Idaho. She took her family along to meet up with Jimmy and some of his closest friends. Rather than letting her children roam free in Idaho, she focused on some group family-friendly activities.
“It’s sort of a family vacation in Idaho and normally it’s pretty serene with a lot of fishing, but this year was off the hook,” she recalled with Jimmy. “There was a lot of dancing. My favorite was the silent disco. I love it.”
