Ellen DeGeneres Releases Trailer For New Comedy Special
A trailer has been released for Ellen DeGeneres’ new comedy special, Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval. The comedian is expected to share a few aspects of her life, including the controversy surrounding her towards the end of her show. The special is also expected to be a final milestone in DeGeneres’ career.
The Comedian Talks About Getting ‘Kicked Out Of Show Business’
As seen in the trailer, DeGeneres appears on stage for the first time in around six years. Wanting to catch the audience up on her life, she lists thinks like getting into gardening and raising chickens.
She then bluntly points that, “I got kicked out of show business.”
DeGeneres mused that her reputation as the “be kind girl” kind of backfired in the end. as she explained:
“Here’s the problem: I am comedian who got a talk show and I ended the show every day by saying, ‘Be kind to one another.’ Had I ended my show by saying ‘go f— yourselves,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind.”
The comedian, as noted by People, also joked about what it is like for women to be confident in this world. As she put it, “Most women aren’t raised with confidence. We’re too self-conscious, which is why you rarely see a woman playing air guitar.”
Looking back at her life, and the start of her career, DeGeneres also explained the real reasons she got into show business were personal, not monetary: “I thought, if I could make people happy, they’ll like me. And if they like me, I’ll feel good about myself.” Of course, she acknowledged the outcomes of this, saying, “And all I can say about that is, thank god for the money!”
DeGeneres Said She’s ‘Done’ After This Special
As noted by People, DeGeneres had previously announced her farewell tour. Ellen’s Last Stand… Up, which had planned 27 shows throughout the United States and Canada, though a few of the events were canceled.
During this time, the comedian referred to the upcoming Netflix special as the end of her career. As she put it, “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”
This isn’t the first time DeGeneres, who has had a career since the 1970s, has appeared in her own Netflix special. Back in 2018, DeGeneres appeared in the Netflix special, Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable. This had been her first stand-up special in over a decade, since the 2003 HBO special, Ellen DeGeneres: Here and Now.
Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval is expected to release on Netflix on September 24.
