Kelly Monaco Let Go From GH After 21 Years
General Hospital fans are still reeling from the news that Kelly Monaco was let go from the show. She played Sam McCall on the ABC daytime drama since 2003. There’s a big storyline coming up with Lulu Spencer waking up from her coma to find that her ex-husband, Dante, has moved on with Sam.
But viewers won’t see that story play out. The show reportedly plans to kill Sam and donate her liver to save Lulu. The nature of Sam’s exit or Kelly Monaco’s final air date has yet to be revealed.
But multiple outlets reported that the actress was blindsided by the show firing her after 21 years. Her co-star Steve Burton said that the whole situation “sucks.”

Kelly Monaco fans have been fighting to get the soap to change their mind about firing the actress. Maurice Benard took to Twitter to break his silence over his co-star’s firing. Longtime fans may recall that Sam and Sonny have a long history and were once in a romantic relationship.
He wrote that Kelly Monaco is a talented actress who will likely land on her feet. “Every time someone leaves a show, I always believe something great is going to come,” he wrote. Maurice Benard is one of the most popular actors on GH. It’s rare for fans to disagree with him.
But his tweet received many negative comments on his thoughts on Kelly Monaco’s firing. Laura Wright reweeted his tweet and shared her own thoughts that leaving the show is an “incredible opportunity” for her co-star. Both Maurice and Laura were roasted by fans for their take on the unexpected firing.
