This season of Deadliest Catch has seen some fun moments. One of these is a moment that happened with the F/V Time Bandit. At this moment, dolphins showed up and changed everything about the journey of this vessel on the hit Discovery Channel reality satires.

Here is what happened and how the dolphins made a difference for the F/V Time Bandit.

What Happened With The F/V Time Bandit On Deadliest Catch?

The F/V Time Bandit is co-owned by brothers Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand. The Hillstrands actually constructed and custom-built the vessel themselves. This vessel is, more than almost any other on Deadliest Catch, a family business. Even their younger brother Neal Hillsterand works as a deckhand, as does John’s son Scott.

The brothers decided to accept the offer to be on the reality show because they thought it could be fun to show their grandkids. What happened was that they ended up becoming superstars themselves to a legion of fans. While Captain John retired in Season 13, he made his return in 2020.

Captain John said that it isn’t easy to do this job. “What a lot of people don’t realize is that it takes us a week just to get to Dutch Harbour with our boats and a week to get home, and you could write an adventure about that,” he said (via Family Review).

This means that the captain and his crew often struggle, especially when the weather makes things hard to do their jobs properly.

The Dolphins Saved Captain John’s Season On Deadliest Catch

Captain John was struggling on the F/V Time Bandit, and it was clear that he was not getting along well. It seemed that their latest journey out was going to be a failure. They seemed like they might come back empty-handed, which means no money for the crew on Deadliest Catch.

That is when the crew spotted the dolphins coming up on the vessel. Suddenly, Captain John smiled, and it seemed an entire weight had lifted from his shoulders. There was excitement and they turned the vessel to follow the dolphins, showing happiness even during their disappointing trip.

The crew loved seeing the majestic dolphins swimming along, but they also saw it as a sign. They dropped their nets and hoped for the best. Captain John announced on the episode that he had never seen that many dolphins together at one time in 45 years out at sea.

With only 72 hours left in the expedition, they caught enough larger-than-usual crabs to make their trip profitable. And they owed it all to the dolphins, leading them to their bounty.
