Season 28 of The View is swiftly approaching. As the new season premiere gets closer, two of the talk show’s cast members will be making television history. Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar will both set records for The View as long-time hosts. Here are the details of their careers on the talk show, plus a recap of the show’s previous presenters.

Whoopi Goldberg Makes History On The View

During its time on television, The View has had 24 co-hosts. The talk show first made its TV debut in 1997, with Barbara Walters at the helm.

The late Barbara Walters stayed on the show from its inception until Season 17. Now, Whoopi Goldberg is about to edge her out for the co-host who has sat at the table for the most consecutive seasons.

Whoopi joined the cast of The View in 2007 following Rosie O’Donnell’s initial departure. Since then, she has become a staple on the talk show. She frequently introduces Hot Topics and acts as the moderator during heated debates.

Joy Behar has technically been involved with The View longer than Whoopi, but she was let go from the talk show after Season 16. However, they brought her back in Season 19. At the start of Season 27, Joy acknowledged the two seasons she was missing from the show.

“We’ve been here for 27 years,” she said. “I was here for all of it, except for two, when they canned me. They sacked my behind.” So, she is technically in third place for the longest consecutive run on the show. Season 28 will mark her 10th season since her return in 2019. Whoopi will be in first place and the show’s creator Barbara Walters is second now.

Tying with Joy Behar for third is Elisabeth Hassleback. She appeared on The View for 10 years, first joining the cast in Season 7. Like Joy, she was let go after Season 16, but she wasn’t invited back. Elisabeth went on to co-host Fox & Friends.

Next in the lineup are Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, and Sunny Hostin with nine years on the show. Sunny is currently a co-host. She started in Season 20. Meredith and Star were two of the original members of the panel along with Barbara and Joy. They stayed on through Season 9 before they both left the show.

Sherri Shephard spent seven years on The View before leaving in 2014. She is tied with current co-host Sara Haines, who has also served on the panel for seven non-consecutive years. Sara joined the talk show in Season 20 and stayed for 21 before leaving for a few years to host GMA3. Eventually, she came back in Season 24 and has remained a co-host since then.

Meghan McCain was one of the more controversial co-hosts on The View. She spent much of her four years on the talk show dodging rumors about her being fired. Eventually, she left the show after Season 24. Lisa Ling tied with her with only four years on the show. She made her debut in Season 3 and stuck around until Season 6.

Two of the current co-hosts, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro, have only been on the show for three years. Raven Symone and Paula Farris only served three-year stints on the talk show in Seasons 18 and 19, respectively.

A handful of co-hosts only lasted two seasons on The View. This includes Debbie Matenopoulos, Rosie O’Donnell, Candace Cameron Buré, Jedediah Bila, and Abby Huntsman. Another four panelists only stuck around for a single season, so fans may not even remember them. Jenny McCarthy, Nicolle Wallace, Rosie Perez, and Michelle Collins all came through for a single season between Seasons 17 and 19. It was a turbulent time for the talk show.

Season 28 of The View premieres September 3 at 11 a.m. EST on ABC.
