Julianne Hough Reveals Story Behind Tragic Loss
As Julianne Hough prepares for the upcoming Dancing With The Stars season, she’s shedding light on painful experiences from her past.
After previously speaking about the horrific child abuse she suffered, she chose to touch on another personal tragedy. Julianne’s followers knew her dogs passed suddenly in 2019, but she hadn’t said much about their deaths until now.
Julianne Hough Painfully Recalls How Her Pets Died
In 2019, Julianne Hough was in the middle of breaking up with her husband, Brooks Laich. She had a lot on her plate between the split and launching a new business. But then the unthinkable happened.
“I had asked for a separation,” the DWTS hostess shared on The Jamie Kern Lima Show. “And then 10 days later my dogs were killed by coyotes.”
They were Cavalier King Charles Spaniels named Lexi and Harley. Losing a pet is never easy, but the timing made the tragedy even more horrific. In the interview, Julianne became emotional as she recalled the loss.
“I felt so out of integrity or out of like, alignment,” she continued. “My dogs that represented unconditional love and safety — gone.”
The dancer added that she found comfort in the fact they went together. She also received their bodies afterward for closure. In the aftermath of their passing, she penned a touching tribute to her pets on Instagram.
“Pure love is real, it existed through us. My heart expanded and felt the truth of what is possible. I am forever grateful.
Thank you for your love,” Julianne shared.

Although nothing will ever erase the pain of losing Lexi and Harley, Julianne Hough did go on to love another pet again. She adopted a puppy named Sunny. Fans who follow the dancer on social media can frequently spot the little dog in her posts.
The Dancer Recently Spoke Up About Another Tragic Experience
The new interview regarding the loss of her dogs was undoubtedly painful for Julianne Hough to share. But she’s not shying away from hard topics. In another recent interview with Jamie Kern Lima, the dancer also detailed her childhood abuse.
“There was not a lot of repercussion for what had happened – and by the way, I’m not the only one in my family that had gone through similar things. And so that was a very challenging thing to come to terms with,” the 36-year-old remembered. “Nobody did anything.”
