Does Strictly Come Dancing have much of a future left? Judge Craig Revel Horwood expressed concern that the show might have too many regulations and restrictions moving forward.

Horwood’s comments come after an ongoing scandal involving pro dancer Graziano Di Prima. He allegedly kicked his celebrity partner, Zara McDermott, last series. Now, Strictly executives want to institute protective measures to ensure the safety of everyone in the rehearsal room.

Will Strictly overstep and ruin the show? Or are these measures the best course of action moving forward?

Strictly Come Dancing Judge Craig Revel Horwood Shares His Personal Thoughts

No one can say for sure what the future holds for Strictly Come Dancing. However, Craig Revel Horwood made his own thoughts very clear about increased security measures.

“When I’m teaching casts for shows in rehearsals, I still have to be quite strict. I think you have to be,” Horwood recently told The Sun. “Can you imagine an Olympian getting gold with his or her trainer not being strict? As far as saying, ‘Oh, that was really bad, you need to try it again’, I’m not gonna cry over that. You just have to be able to take some criticism. Otherwise, we’re living in a world where no one is criticized, and it will become watered down and vanilla, where no one’s trying.”

The Strictly judge went on to insinuate some of the celebrity contestants would outright sue the show if they received the same dance education he had.

“My Russian ballet teacher was always touching my hamstrings. That happened to everyone, to make you work from the hamstring up,” Horwood continued. “People will say I was caned, but it’s not about that. It’s about a connection of instructing the muscle to work from underneath and not the top.”

Dance Shows Want To Protect Competitors From Further Abuse

No one denies that ballroom dancing is incredibly hard work. However, proposed security measures were created to ensure no one is physically abused behind the scenes. On top of that, Strictly is a dance competition that lasts for a few months. It’s not the same as preparing a young performer for a life-long career in dance.

Graziano Di Prima was accused of violently kicking his celebrity partner. However, he’s since walked-back his apology and wants to clear his name.

“I wasn’t meaning to kick her. I’d never, never do that. My foot brushed her after I kicked the floor,” Di Prima told The Daily Mail. “Afterwards I hugged her and said I was sorry. There was no problem. We carried on.”

Strictly Come Dancing parted ways with Di Prima and he will not compete in future seasons.
