‘General Hospital’ Bryan Craig Opens Up About Reuniting With Cast
Bryan Craig has spoken out about what it has been like to return to the set of General Hospital after more than a decade. He has been reunited with several old friends, including his on-screen dad Maurice Benard, and on-screen lover Maura West. Here is what the soap star has to say about his daytime TV comeback.
Bryan Craig Details Reunion With On-Screen Mom & More
The actor spoke with Soap Opera Digest upon his return to Port Charles. Bryan only filmed for one day, and he will have a limited stint on the show. However, his return to the set was a memorable one.
“I got there and went through the typical motions, getting fit for clothes and going through hair and makeup,” he recalled. “And while I was doing this process, I was running into people like Maura West (Ava) and Laura Wright (Carly).”
He also ran into General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini on the set. Frank told Bryan that he looked younger somehow, to which Bryan replied, “You know, that’s the General Hospital magic, I guess!”
Laura Wright and Bryan Craig were reunited on the set. The on-screen mother-son duo had a quick encounter. Bryan said that they passed each other as Laura was “literally running” to the soundstage. They quickly shared a hug and well wishes for one another before setting off to film their separate scenes.
Bryan also spoke about his encounters with Maura West, who plays Ava Jerome on the soap. He said that Maura has always been extremely supportive of his career after he left the soap. “She was like my female Maurice,” he said, referring to Maurice Benard who plays his on-screen father. Maurice is also somewhat of a mentor for Bryan outside of the GH set.
‘Thankful’ For The Experience General Hospital Gave Him
Maurice actually played a huge role in Bryan Craig’s return to the ABC sudser. When his agents first received the call from Frank Valentini, Bryan was not sure he wanted to return to the soap opera world. However, when he heard he would be involved with Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) storyline, he was sold.
Prior to getting the script, he called Maurice to talk about what was going on in the show and get details about the story. Bryan has also kept in touch with his father figure on General Hospital over the years.
Bryan Craig has said that he credits much of his career to being on General Hospital at a young age. He first appeared on the soap when he was 21. Learning his lines for GH helped him break down scripts efficiently and become a better actor. He’s always felt thankful for his experience, and being asked back was a “nice compliment” for the actor.
Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) will make his return to Port Charles this week.
