TV Insider shared some great news with soap opera fans. Alison Sweeney is returning to Days Of Our Lives to reprise the role of Sami Brady. She has played the character off and on since 1993.
The actress left the role in 2014, but has made several appearances over the years. Sami was last seen in Salem two years ago when she was about to marry Lucas Roberts (Bryan Dattilo) but called off the wedding after finding out he was behind her kidnapping.
The ever-dramatic character vowed to never return to Salem, but never say never! Alison Sweeney has become a Hallmark favorite since her departure, but never forgets her soap opera roots.
The actress spoke to TV Insider about her willingness to bring Sami back to the canvas.
“I love playing Sami and I am always happy for the chance to come back. We always have to figure out scheduling and such, but if at all possible, I’m so glad to make it happen.”
She didn’t say much about why Sami returns to Salem. Alison Sweeney teased an “unexpected” storyline brought her back to the soap. The casting news comes amid major behind-the-scenes upheaval after head writer Ron Carlivati left.

Sami’s relationship with her stepfather hasn’t always been the best. Her walking in on Marlena (Deidre Hall) and John (Drake Hogestyn) going at it on a conference table was soap gold that sparked decades of storyline.
However, these days, Sami considers John a second father. Could the mysterious storyline have to do with him? The character just returned this week after being absent for a while. One concerned DOOL fan took to Reddit to discuss the actor’s ‘frail’ appearance.
“I hope it’s just good makeup, but he looked really thin & frail today. I know he’s been off screen for a while now & I think I remember reading rumors here about a health problem.”

Other soap fans agreed that there was something off about Drake Hogestyn’s physical appearance.
- Yes, he was noticeably thin! Drake Hogestyn has always been a healthy-looking, fit gentleman. Today he was alarmingly thin and frail. I hope all Is well.
- Yeah, he definitely looked very frail today. I hope he’s ok.
- Allegedly part of why he had such a long period off recently was health related in some way.
Is tragedy about to strike John Black, and Sami returns to town to support her mom? Anything is possible since Alison Sweeney won’t show up on-screen until next year.
