There has been a lot of speculation that 9-1-1: Lone Star was ending after the upcoming season. While Rob Lowe had teased the show could end up with a new life, Fox never made any announcement or guarantee that it would continue. The cast’s options even expired in July.

Now, Lowe has made comments that should discourage all Lone Star fans who want to see more.

Rob Lowe Admits 9-1-1: Lone Star Might Be Ending

Rob Lowe has said all along that 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 might be the show’s best season yet. He has reiterated that again in a recent interview. However, while he remained cautiously optimistic in past interviews, he seemed a little more final in this new interview concerning the show’s future.

Recently, he said the cast made the season figuring it would be the last. “We all went into it pretty much knowing that it was going to be the last season, so that affected everything we did,” Lowe said (via Variety). “We wanted to really show everybody what is still possible in network television if people have the appetite to do it.”

It seems like the upcoming cancelation hit the cast hard, as actors like Lowe feel it shows the networks are ending a particular type of series he feels is still popular and important. He added that this is the “end of an era of a certain type of show we once had an opportunity to make.”

He also said the “scope and scale” of the stories Lone Star tells is a showcase of how valuable these shows are to television. Lowe finished by saying he feels they “did a really good job” of showing that in the final season.

Why Is 9-1-1: Lone Star Ending?

There are a couple of reasons that 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending. The first is the same reason that Blue Bloods is ending despite still being a very successful series with high ratings. The networks want to keep things fresh and would rather cancel a long-running popular show if it means introducing something that might be new and just as popular.

This includes shows like Fire Country, which is a show that has picked up a huge audience and has a lot of new stories to tell. While fans love the comfort of shows like Blue Bloods and 9-1-1: Lone Star, networks want to keep things fresh.

The other reason is that Lone Star was a show that was part of Fox before Disney bought the company. Disney did not own the shows from the pre-merger, although they did acquire the original 9-1-1 and moved it to ABC. Lone Star is the last of the original Fox-scripted shows.
