‘RHOC’ Shannon Beador Reacts To Bloody DUI Photos
Shannon Beador has spoken out about her DUI and how shocked she was to see photos on her phone of the event. The Real Housewives of Orange County star said that she doesn’t remember taking a selfie on the night of her arrest, but what she saw shocked her to her core.
Shannon Beador’s Bloody Selfie Was A Wake-Up Call
The 60-year-old Bravo star came across a selfie she took the night of her DUI arrest in September 2023. In the photo, she looked bloody. It finally clicked how serious the accident was and how lucky she was that no one else was hurt.
“That was really traumatic for me,” she told People. “As you can see, I was injured pretty badly and when I looked at it, it almost felt like I was looking at someone who wasn’t me.”
The RHOC star continued, “I didn’t want to see myself that way, and I didn’t want anyone else to see me that way either. I honestly thought I’d never show it to anyone.”
However, Shannon Beador decided that she needed to share the snapshot with someone. In a RHOC teaser, she can be seen sitting down with her costar Heather Dubrow, and sharing the photo with her.
Shannon acknowledged that when she sat down to share the photo with Heather it would probably go viral, but she was willing to risk that.
“It was a big step for me to take that,” she said “When someone Googles my name probably for the rest of my life, that’s what they’ll see: my face, covered in blood, from the night that easily marked the lowest point of my entire life. But I wanted to be able to speak of everything that happened.”
The RHOC Star Sees This As A New Beginning
The Real Housewives star clarified that she wasn’t seeking sympathy and she didn’t want anyone to feel bad for her. She said, “But I think when you see that picture, you’re like, ‘Oh, wow, this was bad.’ And showing it was the only way anyone would understand that.”
On September 17, 2023, Shannon Beador was arrested in Newport Beach. Prior to her arrest, she crashed her vehicle into a planter box attached to a house. When police officials recorded her blood alcohol level, it came back as 0.24, which is three times the legal limit.
Reflecting on the accident, Shannon said that she is thankful that no one was hurt. Her feelings toward herself are a bit different though.
“Oh, I deserved to get hurt,” she said. “I made a very stupid choice. I could have killed someone.”
The RHOC star had to undergo nine months of alcohol treatment, and 40 hours of community service and will serve three years on probation.
“Part of my therapy has been trying to move past that guilt and shame,” she said. “You say to yourself, ‘I could have killed someone… but I didn’t.’ So I don’t want it to appear that I’m taking any of this lightly, because there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about it. But I didn’t hurt someone, and I’m grateful for that.”
That said, Shannon Beador feels like the accident and her DUI arrest will define a new chapter in her life.
