Wendy Williams’ Family Has Zero Contact With The Star

A source told People that the family is apparently “rooting” for Wendy. The former talk show host remains under court-ordered guardianship following a diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia and progressive aphasia.

The source revealed, “Wendy Williams’ family is unable to speak on her current condition and location due to ongoing litigation and the fact that they have largely been denied contact.”

They continued, “But they are all rooting and praying for Wendy and want to express their well wishes as she celebrates her 60th birthday. She was, is, and always will be an icon.”

Wendy Williams’ family has struggled to get in touch with her since April 2022. That is when her court-ordered guardianship started. At this time, her guardian Sabrina Morrissey is the only person with constant access to Wendy.

In fact, the family was not even made aware of her full diagnosis until it was shared publicly. According to Wanda Finnie, Wendy’s sister, the family had not received any details about her diagnosis since the fall of 2021.

“When she was in Florida, there were a number of people involved. Even beyond family, there were doctors involved, people in Wendy’s professional world that were involved,” Wanda told People. “She had a health team in place, nurses in place and she had family in place. She was getting healthier.”

What Happened To Wendy Williams?

However, things swiftly took a turn for the worse when Wendy Williams returned to her New York apartment. Her sister has a lot of questions about how things have been handled.

“How did she go from this aunt or sister that we love and is healthy one minute to this person who’s in and out of the hospital?” Wanda asked. “How is that system better than the system the family could put in place? I don’t know. I do know that this system is broken. I hope that at some point, Wendy becomes strong enough where she can speak on her own behalf.”

In March, Wendy’s guardian slammed Lifetime producers for exploiting the former talk show host in the docuseries Where Is Wendy Williams? She filed a lawsuit claiming that Lifetime and A&E “shamelessly exploits [Williams] and portrays her in an extremely demeaning and undignified manner.”

Despite her claims, executive producer Mark Ford said that the guardianship attorneys were consulted and signed off on the project.

“The film was signed off on by Wendy, her management, her attorneys, the guardianship,” he said at the time. “They were aware of the filming all the way through. So, we did go by the book and get all the permissions that we needed to get.”

Mark continued, “We went into this film thinking it was one thing, and the truth turned out to be another. Once we started seeing the truth of the situation, we couldn’t ignore it. And the film had to go in the direction of the truth.”
