Will Hallmark Hall Of Fame Movies Return?

At the TCA Summer 2024, Hallmark executives shared big news about the rebranding of the network’s streaming platform. Those executives include President and CEO, Mike Perry, EVP of Programming, Lisa Hamilton Daly, Chief Brand Officer Darren Abott, and EVP Streaming and Digital Platforms Emily Powers.

With the news of Hallmark+, there was a question on whether the network would bring back its prestigious Hall Of Fame movies.

On Twitter, writer Matt Mitovich shared the reply. “We’re continually figuring out how to bring bqck Hallmark Hall of Fame.”

In addition, Meghan O’Keefe’s shared on Twitter, “When asked if Hallmark Hall of Fame will be on Hallmark+, Hamilton Daly says they are discussing bringing it back and what platform it will be best served on.”

Therefore the network is having a conversation about this big piece of Hallmark’s history. However, they are still debating where they will air these movies. Will it be on the OG channel, or will they air these prestigious movies on Hallmark+? That seems to be determined.

The History Behind These Special Hallmark Movies

Even before there was the Hallmark Channel, there was the Hallmark Hall Of Fame movies. Over the years, they aired movies on all three major linear channels, NBC, CBS, and ABC.

Originally called the Hallmark Television Playhouse 73 years ago, the famed card company created spectacular movies that were compared to what was seen at the cinema. They adapted Shakespeare’s plays, and made biographical movies.

These two-hour movies were more expensive than anything that was on television. The company splashed out big bucks to create something special. Also, instead of the modern two-week film schedule, they took three to four weeks to film one movie.

Most of all, such actors as Laurence Olivier and Richard Burton starred in these movies. Back in those days, big-name actors were not making television series. This was something special for viewers.

What is also important to note is that Hallmark received many awards for these movies. This includes 81 Emmy Awards, nine Golden Globes, as well as a cornucopia of other awards.

Therefore, it is understandable that the network executives want to step back and choose the right platform for this very special programming and piece of history. Also, it would be great if Hallmark went back and made movies that won these sorts of prestigious awards.

Viewers, where would you like to watch Hallmark Hall Of Fame movies? Do you prefer the OG or the newly branded streamer?
