Madonna Faces Backlash After Mocking Disabled Fan
Iconic pop singer Madonna is known for her controversial antics. But even her fans can’t defend her mocking a disabled fan. Keep reading for all the details on her latest stunt.
“True Blue” Singer Faces Lawsuit Over Tour Behavior
Madonna has more than one reason to celebrate this year. June will mark one year since her scary medical emergency that had fans fearing for her life. In June 2023, the singer was found unresponsive and rushed to the ER. A serious bacterial infection kept her in a coma for two days.
She made a miraculous recovery but, unfortunately, had to postpone her tour. Four months after her hospitalization, she kicked off her Celebration tour, which celebrates Madonna’s four decades in the music industry. But the tour hit a minor snag after a class action suit was brought against the singer.
Two New York residents sued the singer for starting her concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn over two hours late. According to USA Today, the concertgoers claimed “false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices” in the lawsuit.
Madonna has a reputation for controversial, but fans say her latest stunt crossed the line. What happened?
Madonna Faces Backlash After Mocking Disabled Fan
Anyone familiar with Madonna’s discography knows she’s released many dance hits in the last four decades. Fans in the crowd at her concerts often stay on their feet from the first note to the last. So, when she saw someone in the audience sitting down at a recent show, she called them out.
The U.S. Sun reports that Madonna pointed to the audience member and said, “What are you doing sitting down over there?” As the singer walked closer to the crowd, she realized her huge mistake.
The person wasn’t just sitting down. They were in a wheelchair and possibly unable to stand up. “Oh okay, politically incorrect, sorry about that,” Madonna apologized once she realized her error.
“I’m glad you’re here,” she added.

One Madonna fan took to Twitter to admonish the singer. They wrote, “Ok you shouldn’t be calling people out for sitting down anyways. She’s not the queen of England. Some people are tired or have conditions where they need to sit. You want them to leave altogether?”
Not The Only Artist To Make That Mistake
Madonna is hardly the first artist to make such an embarrassing mistake. Kanye West came under fire for pretty much the exact same scenario during a show in Australia.
On the flip side, Adele actually came to a fan’s defense for standing up after other concertgoers told them to sit down.
Do you think Madonna’s apology was sincere or was it cold like some fans suggested? Sound off in the comments.
