Jimmy Kimmel Drops Hint Of Retirement At Contract End
Admittedly, long-time Jimmy Kimmel Live! show host, Jimmy Kimmel, is considering retirement after twenty-one years of on-air hosting. While he still enjoys many aspects of his night show hosting, he is looking at what the future might hold for him. Lately, he’s been dropping hints that this might be his last contract with ABC.
Jimmy Kimmel Discusses Retirement
While interviewing with the Los Angeles Times, Jimmy Kimmel says, “I think this is my final contract.” Jokingly he gives himself a hard time adding, “I hate to even say it because everyone’s laughing at me now — each time I think that, and then it turns out to be not the case.” Then he lets them know there’s still time to decide. He says, “I still have a little more than two years left on my contract, and that seems pretty good.” Then contently, he says, “That seems like enough.”
He Drops Hints About Retiring
Additionally, he gave retirement a mention on the Strike Force Five podcast. Notably, Jimmy Kimmel co-hosted the limited series with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver. During the writer’s strike, they offered twelve episodes while they were out of work. But Jimmy Kimmel told his counterparts he has considered leaving before. Notably, he has gone through many phases of the show over the years.
Likewise, the recurring thought of retiring also surfaced while he was knee-deep in planning for the Academy Awards in March. Again, speaking to the L.A. Times, he says, “Wednesday night, I was very tired and I had all these scripts to go through — I had to revise and rewrite all these pitch ideas for the Oscars — and I was literally nodding off onto my computer.” At that point, he recalls, “In those moments, I think, ‘I cannot wait until my contract is over.’” Additionally, he says, “It’s hard to yearn for it when you’re doing it.” Admittedly, he feels differently once he has a break. Saying, “Then, I take the summer off or I go on strike, and you start going, ‘Yeah, I miss the fun stuff.’”
Jimmy Kimmel Has Plans For His Future
No doubt, Jimmy Kimmel is making plans. As he entertains the idea he dreams of learning a new language, for instance, Italian. And he can picture days of learning to play harmonica or relaxingly going fly-fishing. Although retirement appeals to him, he knows he will have plenty of things to do. He says, “[The future Kimmel is] very busy — it’s funny, whenever I think of what I’m going to do when I stop working, it all involves more work.” And his list of desires is accompanied by many things he likes to do in his free time. “I have a lot of hobbies — I love to cook, I love to draw, I imagine myself learning to do sculptures.”
Jimmy Kimmel Doesn’t Want To Waste Time
But mostly, Jimmy Kimmel doesn’t want to regret any missed opportunity. He explains, “I know that when I die, if I’m fortunate enough to die on my own terms in my own bed, I’m going to think, ‘Oh, I was never able to get to this, and I was never able to get to that.’” However, he accepts who he is, “I just know it about myself.”
