Hallmark’s An American In Austen is an homage to the 2008 series Lost In Austen. This is the story of Harriet. She is a librarian whose dream is to write a romantic novel. Her dream hero is Mr. Darcy. However, she has writer’s block and is incredibly frustrated.
Despite her dreams of the classic Jane Austen hero, she has a boyfriend, Ethan. Ethan splashes out to create the most romantic setting. He proposes to her after singing a surprisingly animated acoustic version of Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded,” before going down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage. But, she is not sure.
Her friends send her off in a cab, and soon she is dreaming of Mr. Darcy. He is her perfect man. Soon, her taxi ride becomes bumpy. Moreover, her vehicle is not the same. She is in a horse-drawn carriage. They arrive at the grand house where the Bennetts live.
Harriet thinks this is a joke set up by Ethan. But soon, she realizes that she is living inside of the Jane Austen book Pride & Prejudice. That means she gets to meet Mr. Darcy. But, is fiction better than real life?
