John Henry reveals he has mental health struggles

Bachelor in Paradise alum John Henry Spurlock is sharing something about himself that he’s never shared much with fans until now. He revealed that he suffers from mental health issues. Like so many across the globe, John Henry shared that he has depression. He mentioned on Paradise that seven years ago he had some depression. John Henry is ready to talk about it more now.

He shared a video on Instagram in which he tells people that social media is a highlight reel for everyone including him. John Henry said people may look at his social media and think he has a cool job and a really good life but there’s more to him. He went on to say he’s traveled all around Europe and lived in some cool cities which is grateful for but nobody sees what goes on behind the scenes.

He continued talking saying that prior to going on The Bachelorette to date Charity Lawson, he was single for seven years. It wasn’t from lack of looking or because he was too busy, it was because whenever he found himself in a low he walked away from whomever he was with.

He’s organizing a walk

John Henry voiced that he knows October is depression awareness month but the funny thing about depression is that it doesn’t wait til October to become a problem.

So, in order to raise awareness John Henry is organizing a walk for depression in Virginia Beach. He noted in the past sometimes all it took was for someone to come and grab him and make him get out of the house and do things when he was in a low.

This walk is his way of grabbing people and making them get out of the house. He knows it will be good for him and thinks it can help others as well.

More details about his walk

John Henry shared details on Facebook about his walk. He said, “Join us Saturday, March 2nd for John Henry’s Walk For Depression awareness walk. The event will begin at The Back Deck parking lot at 8 AM. We’ll be walking down Chick’s Beach to First Landing Park, and back! Distance is about 5 miles total. This is an opportunity to meet up as a community to show support to those that struggle or know someone that struggles with depression. Everyone is welcome! There are no costs, products, or sponsors, just simply an event to come together as a community to acknowledge the ways depression has shaped our lives, and to know we’re not alone.”

He even welcomes others who want to come to support others in their lives who suffer from depression.
