Gerry Turner Opens Up About His Regrets As ‘Golden Bachelor’
As the first Golden Bachelor season comes to an end, Gerry Turner reflects on the things he regrets from the show. Keep reading for all the details.
Gerry Turner Confesses To Being A ‘Nerd’ In High School
It’s hard to imagine now, but Gerry Turner insists he grew up as a ‘nerd’ in high school. He made the confession during an Esquire profile ahead of the Golden Bachelor season finale.
The man with a huge lion tattoo and an entire nation of fans swooning over him was once a “state champion debater” who wore “horned-rim glasses.” Turner actually married his high school sweetheart. Sadly, Toni passed away unexpectedly in 2017, which put him on the path to looking for a second chance at love on reality TV.
In less than two weeks, viewers will find out if Turner found love with Leslie Fhima or Theresa Nist.
He Shares Dating Advice For The Younger Generation
While Gerry Turner did date casually after his wife’s passing, he told Esquire that he hasn’t dated seriously since 1968 when he was in high school. He told the outlet that his ideal date was going to the YMCA to dance and listen to music.
“We would always leave early and find a spot to park before I took her home. That was just perfect,” he said about dates with Toni in their younger years.
What would he tell younger guys looking for dating advice? “At all costs, be face to face with the person.” Turner also encourages active listening as well as paying attention to body language.
The Golden Bachelor admitted that dating changes with age. “As you get older, some of the things you’re worried about fade away,” he said. The older generation doesn’t worry about “careers, children, or paying the bills.” Instead, they focus on the connection.
It’s that connection that led Gerry Turner to have some regrets about his time on the show.

Gerry Turner Opens Up About His Regrets As Golden Bachelor
Throughout the season of Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner was open and candid with the contestants about his feelings for them. Perhaps too open. He committed one of the biggest faux pas in the franchise – saying ‘I love you’ to multiple women.
Gerry Turner said those three words to Faith Martin only to send her home at the next rose ceremony. Whoops!
He told Esquire that’s he’s “unapologetic” because he did feel it at the time. However, he admitted that he “built expectations that were unfair.”
He also broke a pledge he made to himself going into the show to only say those words to one woman. “Sometimes, I’m OK with it—that I failed at that—and sometimes I’m not,” he said of his Golden Bachelor regrets.
In the end, appearing on the dating show was worth it. “I did come to the end and find a happy ending,” he told the outlet.
Fans can tune in to ABC on Thursday, November 30, at 8 PM Eastern to see how the season ends.
