See what she had to say.
Ree Drummond and her family are mourning a loved one
Mashed recently caught up with the Pioneer Woman to discuss a wide variety of topics, including the loss of her beloved Walter. The basset hound recently passed away, seemingly from old age.
Although it’s been a difficult adjustment for the family, Ree assured the publication that the family has many fond memories of the dog.
“It has been really sad for the family, as Walter has been a part of our family for so many years and is tied to every memory we’ve had around our homestead,” Ree said in the interview. “He grew up with the kids, and he was a lump of kindness and love. I’m in that stage where I tear up thinking about him, but there’s something to be said for knowing that it was definitely his time to go — and it was a peaceful passing for him. He was the best!”
Shortly after Walter’s death, Ree honored the family pet in a touching Instagram post.
“Goodbye, sweet wonderful Walter,” she wrote at the time, uploading several photos of the dog over the years. “I’m going to bed early so I can turn off these tears and instead dream sweet memories of you, the most loving loyal pure-hearted doggie our family has ever known. Go find your brother Charlie and have some fun, ol’ boy.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
Several fans and friends flooded the comments section to wish the family peace during their time of mourning.
What’s next on the horizon for the Pioneer Woman?
Losing a pet is never easy. However, Ree Drummond and her family are going to honor Walter and move forward with their lives. She has a new cookline coming out and as always, things are busy on the family farm.
After suffering a serious injury a few years ago, Ree’s husband Ladd is on the mend and continues to work on the ranch.
“Ladd’s doing great! The bright side is that after breaking his neck in 2021 and having surgery, any other bruise, cut, ache, or pain seems minor in comparison,” Ree told Mashed.” Yes, ranching definitely can be an injury-rich environment. Fortunately, Ladd and his brother generally avoid serious injuries since they’ve been doing this since they were little. The biggest ache and pain these days is just due to wear and tear … and age. I can say that because I’m two weeks older than Ladd.”
After everything the family faced over the last few years, it really seems like they’re much stronger now. And they will keep Walter in their hearts forever.
