Even hospitalized, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda dedication to the manga knows no bounds. Turns out, a new tweet revealed even a stay in the hospital wouldn’t stop the creator from pushing forward.
It takes a considerable amount of dedication to work continuously on one story for more than twenty years. So there’s never been any denying how much faith One Piece writer, artist, and creator Eiichiro Oda has in his work. A recent social media post goes even further in-depth as to just how much dedication he has, though. It’s not something that can be compared to most other artists out there in the world.
A Pirate In The Hospital
The post comes from a Twitter account that regularly translates Japanese news and interviews relating to One Piece. This recent tweet is a revelation about the time Oda spent in the hospital a decade ago. He was in the hospital for two weeks dealing with an abscess that had been found on his tonsils. Apparently, his work on One Piece never stopped.
Even during his hospitalization in 2013, Oda never stopped drawing the Dressrosa arc. He created this color spread in a hospital room. Kishimoto, Naruto mangaka, visited the room to cheer up Oda. He was surprised that Oda was still drawing. pic.twitter.com/NYoIpFbiZT

The Dressrosa arc Oda was working on is what would eventually become Season 17 of the show. His fans agreed it was pretty amazing that he managed to continue working and drawing despite the scary circumstances. It makes sense, though, considering One Piece is the story to which Eiichiro has dedicated most of his life.
It’s well known at this point that Oda is a perfectionist and loses a lot of sleep over this story. Apparently, during the average work week, he only sleeps from two to five in the morning. He spends the rest of the hours in the day writing and drawing.
It seems fairly logical at that point that one little abscess in the throat isn’t going to stop work for Oda.
The End Of One Piece
One Piece is almost 26 years in the making. Many fans may want the series to keep going on forever, but Eiichiro Oda has other plans. Oda has stated that the story for the manga is more than 80 percent done. He also said the final saga for One Piece would begin with Chapter 1054. Right now, the manga is preparing to release Chapter 1085, so the ending is certainly approaching.
Exactly how many more volumes the manga will get is currently unknown. It is one of the longest-running manga of all time with 105 volumes in publication at the time of writing this. It also holds the title of the best-selling manga of all time by a wide gap. Currently, the series has more than 500 million copies sold. The second-highest, Golgo 13, only has 300 million copies sold. It will be a shock to the manga and anime industry when One Piece reaches its conclusion.
New episodes of One Piece Season 20 are still ongoing.
