Anime is crossing over with the sci-fi classic once again as new Star Wars: Visions is just over the horizon. Volume 1 of the compilation series hit Disney+ back in September 2021. The combination of Star Wars lore and Japanese animation was fantastic, and one episode even got nominated for an Emmy. Season 2 (or Volume 2, as its called) promises to bring even more self-contained stories from various amazing animation studios. Only this time, there’s an intriguing twist. Japanese animation studios aren’t the only ones getting a crack at the famous IP this time around. Volume 2 of Star Wars: Visions is going to be worldwide.
Volume 2
Recently, we got multiple announcements from Disney and Lucasfilm about Volume 2 of Star Wars: Visions. The first is that it’s coming on May 4th, AKA Star Wars Day. The second is all of the studios that are making the shorts for this newest installment of the compilation series. Rather than all Japanese studios, this time around there’s only a single Japanese studio doing one episode. The other eight episodes of the season will each be handled by a studio from a different country.
On top of Japan, the other countries we’re getting shorts from are Ireland, the United Kingdom, Spain, Chile, South Africa, South Korea, France, and India. That’s a wide variety of countries from all around the world. Many getting their very first shots at producing official Star Wars content. It’s going to be exciting to see what ideas for the universe of this beloved sci-fi series these locations can conjure up.
There’s some big talent going into this new volume. Gabriel Osorio is the writer and director of the Chilean episode. He previously made the short film Bear Story which was the first Latin American short film to win an Oscar. Rodrigo Blaas is the writer and director of the Spanish episode. He’s had his hands in the animation industry for decades, working with everyone from Pixar to Guillermo Del Toro. With so much exciting talent going into Volume 2 of Star Wars: Visions it’s hard not to imagine it meeting the expectations set by the first volume.
Star Wars
Disney+ has no shortage of Star Wars content on the way this year. On top of Volume 2 of Star Wars: Visions we’re also getting Season 3 of The Mandalorian. That will be arriving even earlier on March 1st. We’ll also be getting Season 2 of The Bad Batch sometime later this year. On top of the new seasons, we’ll also be getting the first seasons for two different original shows. Those are the highly-anticipated Skeleton Crew and Ahsoka. Without a doubt, this is going to be a huge year for Star Wars fans.
Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 will be arriving on Disney+ in its entirety on May 4th.
