Lea Michele Answers Past Rumors And Allegations
Lea Michele was one of the top stars from the musical series Glee. However, she faced several accusations from her co-stars and her career never started rolling after the show ended.
Now that Michele is planning her big role as Fanny Brice in the new Broadway adaptation of Funny Girl, she took time to answer her critics.
Lea Michele talks learning from past actions on Glee
Lea Michele starred on Glee from 2009 to 2015 as Rachel Berry. The show was about a high school glee club, and the main draw was their fresh takes on familiar songs, which gave them several hits that ended up released as soundtrack albums. However, once she finished up on Glee, things went south for Lea for a long time.
While Lea moved on to Scream Queens right after Glee ended, allegations from her actions on the show started to cause her to struggle to find new roles. She did get a small role on The Mayor, but hasn’t appeared on a TV show since 2018. She also hasn’t been in a movie since Glee went on the air either.
In 2020, the news broke on why so many people didn’t want to work with Lea Michele anymore. Actress Samantha Marie Ware accused Lea of bullying and “traumatic microaggressions” while working together on Glee. Ware starred as Jane Hayward in the sixth season of Glee, and by that time Lea was the show’s top star. However, Ware said she believed the actions were racist in nature.
Heather Morris (Brittany) and Amber Riley (Mercedes) both said that Lea Michele could be “frustratingly rude to everyone on set.” However, both women said that they didn’t believe it had to do with racism, but just with her poor attitude. Lea issued a public apology at the time.
New York Times spoke to Lea Michele ahead of her starring turn in Funny Girl. The actress said she is ready to put this all behind her and move on with her career on Broadway. “I really understand the importance and value now of being a leader,” Lea said. “It means not only going and doing a good job when the camera’s rolling, but also when it’s not. And that wasn’t always the most important thing for me. I have an edge to me; I work really hard; I leave no room for mistakes. That level of perfectionism, or that pressure of perfectionism, left me with a lot of blind spots.”
Lea Michele answers claims she can’t read or write
Along with the accusations of her abusing actions on Glee, some unfounded accusations also rose against Lea Michele. A podcast claimed she couldn’t read or write, and Lea took time to address those rumors as well.
“I went to Glee every single day; I knew my lines every single day,” Lea said. “And then there’s a rumor online that I can’t read or write? It’s sad. It really is. I think often if I were a man, a lot of this wouldn’t be the case.”
