‘Days Of Our Lives’ Ending 57-Year-Run On NBC
In shocking news, NBC has announced that Days of Our Lives will end its 57-year run on the network. While this is bad news for fans of the long-running soap, there is some good news. Days of Our Lives is moving to a new network on streaming television.
According to TV Line, Days of Our Lives will move from NBC to the Peacock streaming service on September 12. From that point on, new episodes will only be available on that streaming service, which costs $4.99 a month.
Days of Our Lives moving from NBC to Peacock streaming
Over the last two decades, several long-time soap operas ended their runs completely and there are very few left on daytime network television. With this news, there will be one less. On Monday, September 12, Days of Our Lives will start its new era with episodes only airing on Peacock streaming. A new one-hour news program will replace the soap called NBC News Daily.
“This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers,” Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said about the move.
“With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.”
The good news is that Peacock streaming only costs $4.99 a month with ads, and there are plenty of other shows available on the streaming service to make it worth the monthly cost. There is also a premium tier on Peacock for $9.99 that eliminates the ads.
The world is moving away from cable TV
While the Days of Our Lives news will likely anger many fans who feel they are paying too much already for cable, many other shows have made the move to pass on network and cable TV opportunities. Dancing with the Stars will move from ABC to Disney+ for its 31st season, with the reasoning that they will have more creative freedom on streaming and there are already over 130 million subscribers on Disney+, compared to the five million viewers the show received on ABC each week.
Love Island USA was another reality show that moved from network to a streaming service when NBC acquired it from CBS and put it on Peacock. That show promised that it would be able to be “naughtier” and “steamier” without the network censors. While a soap opera like Days of Our Lives likely won’t get “steamier,” there are more options available on Peacock than on NBC.
This is also nothing new for Days of Our Lives fans, as Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem has been airing on Peacock since the spinoff started. The second season of Beyond Salem just ended, and fans who got Peacock for that shouldn’t miss a beat when Days moves there in September.

How many young people watch days? The show is for people who are true fans and have watched for 50 plus years. Hate to pay extra I have been so fateful but I will just to keep it going, even though it’s not the same days as it used to be in its hay day! I still love it.
