‘Yellowstone’ Creator Taylor Sheridan Taking Over As ‘Lioness’ Showrunner
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has now taken over as showrunner for Lioness, a series he co-created with Hallmark alum, Jill Wagner. There are a lot of new details that have been emerging.
Luckily, we have all the latest details about the new Paramount+ series starring Wagner, Zoe Saldaña, and Laysla De Oliveira.
Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan Taking Over As Lioness Showrunner
Earlier this week, Variety reported that Taylor Sheridan will take over as the showrunner for the upcoming Paramount+ series, Lioness. Originally, Thomas Brady was the showrunner. Although he was part of the writing room process, when all was said and done, things changed.
Sources shared that the changes were due to “creative differences.” However, the parting was described as “amicable.”
Lioness Co-Creator Jill Wagner Happy With Change
On Thursday, Jill Wagner took to Instagram to share the latest Lioness news. “In my world it doesn’t get any better than this people. @paramountplus #Lioness #taylorsheridan.” Along with Sheridan, she co-created Lioness so this is clearly a passion project.
This has been an idea the Mystery 101 star has been kicking around for a few years. Based on a real-life CIA program of the same name, they are a group of women who “infiltrate terrorist and criminal networks.” What more do we know about this series?
What Is Lioness About?
The Paramount + series features Cruz Manuelos (De Oliveira). Cruz is described as a “passionate,” young Marine, although still “rough-around-the-edges.”
The CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team has recruited Cruz. Their mission is to take down a terrorist organization from within, with Cruz embedded with a family there. Saldaña will play Joe as the tough station chief of the elite program.
Moreover, she is in charge of leading her all-female team of operatives. This means training, and guiding them through some of the most challenging undercover operations.
Jill Wagner portrays Bobby. Although there is no more information released on her character, Wagner’s social media has shown her physical dedication to the character. She has undergone a complete physical transformation complete with a tough buff body plus the shearing of her long blonde locks. Wagner actually documented her dramatic haircut as she let go of her signature long blonde locks for a tough, short look. She is almost unrecognizable.
This is a high-profile show with Taylor Sheridan, Zoe Saldaña, and Jill Wagner, who are all executive producers, along with Nicole Kidman, and others.
When Does Paramount+ Series Start Production?
The series production start date is a major change. Originally, when they announced Lioness, production was set to start last month. However, it has now been pushed back to September. Why would they delay the start?
Currently, Taylor Sheridan is in the midst of filming Yellowstone Season 5. Although they started filming in May, this season is supersized. There will be 14 episodes, divided up into two equal parts with the first part premiering on Sunday, November 13.
In addition, he is working on two Yellowstone prequels, including the second part of 1883, as well as the new prequel, 1932, which stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.
Therefore, Sheridan will likely go from filming Yellowstone or one of the prequels before filming the first season of Lioness. That could be the explanation for the delayed filming. There also could be more to the behind-the-scenes story that production is not willing to reveal. Either way, this looks to be exciting with an amazing cast.
