Peta Murgatroyd On ‘Regular’ Life With Maks Following Ukraine Escape
Life for Peta Murgatroyd and her family has been pretty chaotic in 2022. In the early months of the year, her husband Maks Chmerkovskiy was filming the Ukrainian version of Dancing With The Stars. And then the Russian invasion happened.
Peta and the rest of the family stood by, waiting to hear news from Maks. Thankfully, he made it home to Los Angeles, safe and sound.
So what is the family up to know that Maks is home? Keep reading to see what Peta had to say about returning to “regular” life.
Peta Murgatroyd is happy to have Maks Chmerkovskiy home with the rest of the family
Once Maks Chmerkovskiy returned to the United States, he started looking for ways to help Ukrainians. Peta has supported him in his endeavors.
“It has been kind of like a life-changing experience, I will say,” the Australian dancer told PopCulture. “I never thought that we would kind of be going through something like this in our lifetime, but we are doing good.”
Maks’ charitable organization is called Baranova 27. He and his younger brother Val run it together. Peta shared that she’s involved in the process as well.
“So yeah, we’re just concentrating on that and getting back into our regular daily life,” she continued.
When Maks came home to the U.S., he was dealing with a lot of trauma and PTSD. Peta admits that he’s still struggling with some things, but he’s in a much better headspace than he was a few months ago.
“I feel like the stress has kind of been lifted off of him,” Peta continued. “He’s doing a lot of good work and spending a lot of quality time with us too. I never thought that this type of situation would make you closer, but I really do feel that it made us closer – if we could get any closer. It’s just something, when you go through something like that, where it was so dire, so traumatic. So… I hate to say life or death, but yeah, it was really bad.”
Is Season 31 in the cards for the dancer?
Peta Murgatroyd didn’t participate in DWTS Season 30. But she did say in another interview that she would absolutely come back if the production team asked her to.
“If they call me, I would gladly put up my hand and say, ‘You know, I want to do that,’” Peta told PopCulture. “That’s my first love, so I would not want to give that up type of thing. So yeah, [I’d] hopefully get a good partner and go all the way.”
She also admitted that the platform switch to Disney+ surprised her, but she was on board with it.
