Laurie Metcalf Snags New Role, Will She Leave ‘The Conners‘?
Laurie Metcalf has been a staple of The Conners since its inception as Roseanne in the eighties. The series was rebooted in 2018 then canceled. Luckily, it was rebranded into The Conners with standout Metcalf staying on as fan-favorite Aunt Jackie Harris. Now, she has signed onto a new HBO role. Will this mean the end of her tenure on the hit ABC series?
Laurie Metcalf’s History With The Conners
When Roseanne premiered in 1988, Laurie was a standout as Aunt Jackie. She played Roseanne Barr’s quirky younger sister who could never settle down. The two worked at a plastic factory together where Jackie would go on to date Booker played by a young George Clooney. She had so much success on the series, Metcalf won three Primetime Emmy Awards for her role. Her pregnancy was even written into the role as Aunt Jackie became pregnant from a one-night stand. When the series ended in 1997, Metcalf continued her sitcom success as Sheldon’s mother on The Big Bang Theory. Yet fans were ecstatic when she revealed she was returning for the Roseanne reboot in 2018.
The first season was short but garnered Metcalf another Emmy nod. Sadly a second season would never happen as the series star, Roseanne was terminated. Luckily, the show would go on as just The Conners, killing off the namesake to a pill addiction. Metcalf has continued to be a standout and beloved by fans as she is a constant for lovers of the original series. Thus far, the show has not been renewed for a Season 5 but there is no evidence to believe it will not be. However, Metcalf is now signed on for another series. Could this mean the end of Aunt Jackie?
Laurie’s New Venture
CinemaBlend reports that Laurie Metcalf has scored a role on the HBO Max series Hacks for Season 2. She will be a recurring guest star alongside Ming-Na Wen and Margaret Cho. Legendary actress Jean Smart stars on the series as comedian Deborah Vance. This is all very exciting news for Hacks fans, especially for those who love the work of Metcalf. Yet the real question is how will this impact her filming schedule for The Conners’ upcoming season? It most likely won’t have any effect on her schedule. She has worked on other shows while currently filming including Hulu’s The Dropout and some voice work.
Co-star John Goodman also has another acting job, working on The Righteous Gemstones. Katey Sagal did work on the series as Louise while filing her own show, Rebel. She was determined to do both shows because she loved them dearly. In the end, Rebel was canceled despite having some success. In the end, it does not appear Aunt Jackie and her neurotic ways will be going anywhere.

Love “The Dinners” show. I’d be disappointed if they didn’t renew it for another season. It’s a great family show. I got hooked on “Roseanne” and was really happy they didn’t just end the show when Roseanne “stuck her foot in her mouth” and got fired. Love the show.
