Lifetime’s Janet Jackson Documentary Includes Michael Jackson Insights
The new Janet Jackson documentary, Janet, is premiering soon. The multiple-Grammy Award winner is speaking out for the first time about her career and family. This includes the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction, as well as her brother Michael Jackson.
This documentary is so huge that it is airing on both Lifetime and A&E. This is no droll documentary, but instead, a “Special Event.”
Here is what you should expect.
Why Is Janet Jackson Speaking Now?
The notoriously private Janet Jackson is the focus of a brand new Lifetime and A&E documentary, Janet. The youngest member of the immensely talented Jackson family is finally speaking about everything.
This means she will talk about becoming a mother later in life, her pressure to be in her family, how she was close to two brothers, Randy and Michael, and leaving the music industry.
According to the Janet trailer, Janet Jackson is now speaking out because “It’s just something that needs to be done.” Janet was filmed back in 2018. However, the network did not announce this historic documentary until 2020.
In addition to Jackson, the documentary includes interviews with Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Samuel L. Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, and Paula Abdul, as well as others.
What Does Janet Jackson Say About Brother Michael Jackson?
In the trailer, there is footage of Janet Jackson’s brother Michael being arrested. What does the pop diva have to say about that?
“Guilty by association. Because that’s what they call it, right?”
There is footage of Janet as a child, along with her talented brothers. She explains how their father wanted them out of Gary, Indiana. Therefore, he “stopped” being a father. Instead, he became a manager. That meant that Janet was expected to sing because this was the family business.
Controversy Over Super Bowl Halftime Show
Unfortunately for Janet Jackson, the phrase “wardrobe malfunction” is forever associated with her name. This all stems from the 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance with Justin Timberlake.
The documentary includes the initial conversation about Jackson working along with the former N’Sync star.
In the trailer, Janet says, “They build you up,” while the visuals show the aftermath of that performance, as well as her brother Michael’s arrest. She continues, “And once you get there, they’re so quick to tear you down.”
Next, they show a headline of how she is banned from the Grammy’s due to the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction. Her career has never returned since that time.
Moreover, she has remained silent. Not anymore.
