‘Yellowstone: 1883’: Tim McGraw, Faith Hill Set Up ‘Ground Rules’
Yellowstone: 1883 promises to be one of the biggest upcoming series. This is the story of John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) great-grandparents, James and Margaret Dutton (Tim McGraw, Faith Hill), and how they left Texas for Montana.
Their Western journey is a challenge, putting strain on the family, as they ride through some very dangerous territory.
In real life, this is no picnic, as the show creator, Taylor Sheridan, is very authentic in every well-researched detail.
But, Tim and Faith had another challenge in filming this series. They are a married couple in real life. How were they going to separate their lives from their Yellowstone characters?
Tim McGraw, Faith Hill Set Up ‘Ground Rules’ Before Filming
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill spoke to People about filming Yellowstone: 1883 together. Although they had both done some acting in separate projects, this was the first time they were acting together.
Moreover, as they are portraying husband and wife, just like in real life, they realized that they needed “ground rules.”
Hill shared that “We have made it a point not to work on our scenes together until we’re on set.” She explained they do this for authenticity. “It’s important that we react to one another naturally as characters not as husband and wife.”
Yellowstone: 1883 Intimate Scene
In the Yellowstone: 1883 trailer, there is a quick clip of Tim and Faith kiss, sans clothing, in a big old bathtub. This is the kind of scene that many veteran actresses may not agree to do. Moreover, to do it with their own spouse, that is tricky.
However, Faith was willing to film something this uncomfortable. But, she explained they filmed with some adjustments. “It was really uncomfortable for me personally because I’m a very shy person in that type of situation.”
She revealed that this is more than acting. This is pushing some personal boundaries. “I obviously feel comfortable with my husband, but this is different. For intimate scenes, I feel like that belongs to us.”
Thankfully, show creator Taylor Sheridan had a solution. He closed the set, only having a minimum of the crew on board. In the end, she explained that she felt comfortable, “and it turned out to be beautiful.”
What Is Yellowstone 1883 About?
The Yellowstone prequel, 1883, is the origin story of John Dutton’s great-grandparents, James and Margaret Dutton. The first season is about the patriarch and matriarch of the Dutton family, they travel with their family from Texas to Montana.
