Travis Scott’s Team Referred To The Deceased As ‘Smurfs,’ Fans Outraged

As if things couldn’t get any worse for Travis Scott and the Kardashian family when it comes to how they handled the Astroworld tragedy, they just did. Apparently, their team referred to those who died at the show ‘smurfs.’ Needless to say, people, are not happy.

Travis Scott is in hot water again

Travis Scott and the Kardashian family have been in hot water ever since 8 people died at Travis’s Astroworld Festival. That was already horrible, then, fans were once again disappointed in how the whole group of them handled the situation.

Just yesterday, Kim Kardashian finally spoke out by posting a few tweets. In those tweets, Kim asked the fans to pray for Travis Scott. Of course, that caused an uproar. Not to mention, they have all been posting and having fun while families are mourning the loss of loved ones.

“According to the 56 Event Operations Plan obtained by CNN, Staff working for Astroworld were told to refer to potentially dead concertgoers as Smurfs,” the caption starts.

“They were instructed not to use the words dead or deceased over the radio.

Can you imagine how the families of these people must feel?!,” the account writes on the video.

Of course, there are several agreeing comments in the comment section.

• “Lack of thinking in every aspect of event!! Very poor planning!!” one person says.
• “There are other words that wouldn’t be so rude imo. A silly cartoon character? Nope,” another states.

Not everyone agrees though

Not everyone thinks this is the worst thing ever. Some fans bring up an interesting point. It would cause more chaos to announce what is really happening over the walkie-talkies.

“They do that everywhere. You won’t hear dead over any intercom or radio. Is it offensive to call someone ‘code blue’ with their room number? Blue things usually go hand in hand with dead,” one person explains.

“Katie. In every emergency response there are certain code words. Some of it is to help prevent people from hearing something that could cause panic. And some of it is to help the first responders sort of compartmentalize what they are dealing with,” another starts. “They have to depersonalize things to an extent or they could become emotionally overwhelmed and not be able to function. So it sounds cruel to others but it does serve a purpose. So I think now that you understand it better it would be good for you to amend your comments. If you want more information you can go to FEMA and research their NIMS training which is a very comprehensive training program for emergency response.”

While it does make sense that they would need a code word, it does seem odd that they would use the word smurf. Perhaps there is a better more sensible option. Of course, they probably never planned on having to use this protocol.
