‘The Five Juanas’: Netflix Fate, What To Expect
The Five Juanas is gaining popularity on Netflix. This comes just weeks after its October 2021 debut. Keep reading to find out if Netflix will pick the series up for Season 2 and more.
What is the show about
The Five Juanas is based on a Colombian telenovela called La Juanas. All 18 episodes of the first season were added to Netflix on October 6, 2021. What’s on Netflix likens the show to a Spanish-language Pretty Little Liars.
According to Netflix, the show is about:
Five women with the same birthmark set out to unravel the truth about their pasts and discover a tragic web of lies spun by a powerful politician.”
The women realize that they have the same birthmarks on their backs after an evacuation due to an earthquake. This sparks an investigation into how they are related. Besides DNA testing, the women seek answers from Simón Marroquín.
Notably, each of the women has unique lives. Their careers are a journalist, a psychic, a nun, a stripper, and a singer.
In the second half of Season 1, the women vow to “take revenge on Rogelio for dirtying the family name.” The season ends with a mystery woman revealing that she has the same birthmark as the others.
Will there be Season 2 of The Five Juanas
At the time of this writing, there are no clear indications that The Five Juanas will get the go-ahead for Season 2. What’s On Netflix takes a data-driven approach when it comes to making their speculations about renewal.
The series was produced in Mexico, with a storyline based in Cancún. When it was released in Mexico, it spent 12 days in the top 10. Now, it’s averaging at around 6.
When The Five Juanas released on Netflix US, it was in the top 10 for about two days. It is because at six on the TV charts and 5 on the overall chart. As of October 16, the series isn’t in the top 10.
Historically, these rankings are significant, because as WoN reports, data is one of the determining factors in whether or not Netflix chooses to renew a show. Despite the slow start, WoN predicts “that it’s highly like the Five Juanas will return for season 2.” Not only that, but “most Spanish language sources seem to conclude that the second season is on the cards but none had any firm plans from the showrunners or cast quoted.”
