‘The Witcher’ Season 2 Completes Filming: When Will Netflix Drop New Episodes?
The long awaited second season of Netflix series The Witcher has just wrapped. They experienced many delays in filming Season 2.
What do we know about the upcoming season and when should the streaming service drop the new episodes?
The Witcher Season 2 Filming Completed
After Covid-19 delays and Henry Cavill’s serious on-set injury, The Witcher Season 2 has finally finished shooting. According to Republic World, Cavill’s makeup and hair artist, Jacqueline Rathore, shared on her now expired Instagram Stories that they were finally done filming on April 1. This is fantastic news as they began filming over a year ago.
Besides Cavill, who portrays Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan (Ciri) and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) are returning. in addition, Agnes Bjorn (Vereena), Aisha Fabienne Ross (Lydia), Basil Eidenbenz (Eskel), Kristofer Hivju (Nivellen), Mecia Simson (Francesca), and Paul Bullion (Lambert) are all back.
The Season 2 actors that have been added include Adjoa Andoh (Nenneke), Cassie Clare (Phillippa Eilhart), Liz Carr (Fenn), Graham McTavish (Dijsktra), Kevin Doyle (Ba’lian), Simon Callow (Codringher), and Chris Fulton (Rience).
Could Netflix Season 2 Include The Wild Hunt?
What is the second season storyline? The few things that we know about The Witcher Season 2 is that they will not be jumping timelines as much. That was the biggest criticism of The Witcher Season 1. The original intention of the time jump was to show Geralt’s overall story arc and allow Ciri and Yennefer to appear early in the series. This story appeared far earlier than in the Andrzej Sapkowski books.
Fans of The Witcher video game are quite familiar with the Wild Hunt. Readers of the novels know that the Wild Hunt is not until the fourth book, Time of Contempt. This is when the final enemies pursue Ciri. Therefore, they are not expecting it that early in the Netflix series.
However, according to PC Gamer, there are photos of “filming” taking place in Devon, England, on Saunton Beach. What they saw looks like the Wild Hunt. Could they include this later part of the story this early on in the series? They don’t think so. Instead, they believe that this will be a “short cameo” to add anticipation and foreboding to the story.
Netflix has not announced the third season, but it is understood that this is the plan. We can assume that if this is the case, they will start right away. With all of the Season 2 issues, it would be prudent to get a head start on filming.

The Witcher Season 2 Plagued With Delays
Despite best intentions, there were many delays in filming The Witcher Season 2. The Netflix series started shooting early in 2020. However, by March, the worldwide coronavirus pandemic shut down all production. In August 2020, they began filming outside of London once again. This time, they had to film with strict coronavirus protocol.
However, things halted in early December. Henry Cavill, who does all of his stunts, was seriously injured. Using a safety harness, he was doing a high-flying stunt. Therefore, Cavill was 20-feet high in the trees and had a freak accident. He seriously injured his hamstring, and production halted. Thankfully, they were able to resume production and complete filming early in 2021.
Although Netflix has not announced when they will drop The Witcher Season 2., it is likely that it will drop sometime in 2021.
