Former ’60 Minutes’ Producer Breaks Silence After Firing
Multiple changes have taken place at CBS News, especially its flagship program, 60 Minutes. This has included the exit of many figures who spent years with the program, and many did not leave by choice. Recently, news has come out of one such figure opening up about what happened on social media. However, it was other journalists who were sharing the story.
Many Changes Have Occurred At 60 Minutes Since Bari Weiss Was Made CBS News’ Editor-In-Chief
Viewers have seen various changes take place at CBS News over the past few months. This has followed the installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief in October 2025.
One program that has especially been impacted has been 60 Minutes. Such figures leaving the show, whether by choice or by firing, have included Anderson Cooper, Scott Pelley, Draggan Mihailovich, Tanya Simon, and Sharyn Alfonsi.

One figure let go in May 2026 was former managing editor Guy Campanile. During his time with the network, he also worked with CBS Evening News and 48 Hours.
According to TV Insider, Campanile appeared to address the story months after his firing, although the exact posts are not publicly available at this time.
Multiple Journalists Shared Guy Campanile’s Post, Which Appeared To Originate From Facebook
In a share on X from journalist Jeremy Barr, it was claimed that Campanile addressed his firing in a lengthy post on social media. He was allegedly quoted as saying, “After some time and deep reflection, I am now comfortable and prepared to talk about it. Tanya Simon, Draggan Mihailovich, Matthew Polevoy, Scott Pelley, Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega and I refused to be accomplices in the destruction of the most prestigious news program on American television.”
As the post continued, “We would not compromise our principles or reputations by jamming unverifiable notions or White House talking points into our reporting. We objected when told to conduct interviews arranged by the administration. … We did what reporters worth their salt do – we questioned authority…including our own bosses.”

In a follow-up, Barr’s post added, “What has happened recently at 60 Minutes. Where I believe editorial independence has become a casualty of corporate priorities and ideological intrusion – was tragic. But it was part of an inevitable progression in the cascade of afflictions that have devalued our most trusted sources of news.”
Campanile’s Post Appeared To Conclude With A Thomas Jefferson Quote
The post continued, with Campanile appearing to criticize influencers who pass themselves off as “journalists.” The share noted, “Many of these newsroom managers have never been exposed to the depths of poverty. The ravages of war or the heartbreak of disaster. Yet these dilettantes and their enablers make critical programming decisions based on what might trend on-line over the next few hours.”
Despite what happened, Campanile expressed hope for the future and the “opportunities ahead.” Things concluded with a quote from Thomas Jefferson, detailing the importance of “freedom of the press.”

It’s very sad. As someone who got his college degree in broadcast journalism, I always found “60 Minutes” to be a gold standard of investigative reporting. God only knows what it’s going to look like now.
