CBS News’ Matt Gutman’s name has been dropped from a harassment lawsuit in which he allegedly sexualized a co-worker. So, when did this lawsuit begin, and how did Gutman get out of it? Keep reading for more details on what went down.

Matt Gutman Has Worked For CBS News Less Than A Year

It has not even been a year since it was announced that Matt Gutman would be joining CBS News. He had previously been a staple at ABC News for almost two decades, starting with radio and then moving to television. Gutman appeared on ABC World News Tonight, Good Morning America, Nightline, and 20/20. Then, in December 2025, he exited ABC and headed over to CBS, which has been under a microscope due to Bari Weiss taking over. Unfortunately, as good as it all was for Gutman, things started to go downhill. Less than a month ago, Matt Gutman was named in a lawsuit.

He allegedly “sexualized” a co-worker by making an inappropriate comment. Additionally, the 48-year-old was accused of rating a female anchor while chatting with a group of men. This allegedly happened during his time at ABC, but on Friday, September 4th, Gutman’s name was asked to be removed from the suit. A former producer, Samira Said, who had worked at ABC, seemingly with Gutman, was the one who made this request. She had stated that she was let go from her position as she was battling health problems, which should never have happened.

As of now, it is unclear as to why Matt Gutman has been let off the hook. However, Samira Said was very clear when she initially listed Gutman that he was unkind when they worked together:

“On another occasion, during a press day related to a film release, Said and Gutman disagreed about whether the team should leave the work site. In front of multiple coworkers, Gutman responded by making a sexualized insinuation that Said must have an after-hours date in the city and that this is why she did not want to relocate. The remark, made audibly to others, demeaned Said and reduced her professional judgment to a sexualized stereotype.”

Matt Gutman Is Thriving

Despite the lawsuit, Matt Gutman is thriving at CBS News. His numbers are through the roof, and he continues to prove why he is one to watch. He recently took over for  Tony Dokoupil and did exceedingly well. Now that the suit is off his head, he can move on to bigger and better things while staying focused on his job. After the suit initially happened, viewers were torn, as some very much sided with Gutman. However, others were not so sure.
