‘Bachelorette’ Joe Amabile Struggling, Battling Anxiety-Induced Insomnia
Former Bachelorette star Joe Amabile underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. Although they are optimistic about the prognosis, the aftermath has been really hard. Now, he is opening up about the struggles he is facing post-surgery, including anxiety-induced insomnia. Keep reading for more on what Joe shared.
Joe Amabile Is Keeping His Head Up
It was not what Joe Amabile expected when he learned that he had a brain tumor. Moreover, he had to undergo surgery to have it removed, and that was equally as terrifying. The doctors were uncertain as to what they would find and what the outcome would be, but everyone went into the procedure with the utmost positivity. Joe came out okay, and The Bachelorette alum is doing his best to follow the doctor’s orders. He has to take medication to keep cancer cells shrinking, but there are a few side effects that he is still dealing with.

One is speech problems, which he was aware could happen. The other is anxiety-induced insomnia. Joe has always had anxiety, but it is far worse than ever before. He gets so anxious in the middle of the night that he stays up for hours. Some nights, he gets off easy, while others, it can be a nightmare:
“Been up since 4 a.m. because of anxiety. But that is what it is. Some nights it’s worse than others.”
Fortunately, he is able to run again, but that also comes with a price. Joe shared that he can go running, but one run will keep him down for the rest of the day. Therefore, he has a lot of limitations despite starting to get back to the things that he loves. The Dancing with the Stars fan favorite gave a medication update:
“All right, they, uh, this is… anti-seizure medicine. They cut me down to once a day for another week and a half. So, every day at 10 a.m.”
There is also overstimulation that causes him to leave his room and head to a dark place to wind down. Furthermore, he is still fearful of socializing, so Joe Amabile has lost parts of his life and wants to get them back. However, he is four and a half weeks post-op, so he needs to give himself some grace.
