The Simpsons has a unique format where one voice actor can portray multiple characters. At this point, the voices behind the beloved family are almost as popular as the characters themselves. Harry Shearer, who voices Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, and Principal Skinner, among other characters, announced that he was leaving in 2015. However, he was talked into reconsidering.
Bart Simpson is arguably the most popular character on the show. His 1990 rap song, “Do the Bartman,” spent weeks at the top of music charts overseas. Nancy Cartwright is the human behind the animated character. She also lends her voice to create Nelson Muntz and Ralph Wiggum. After recording 800 episodes of The Simpsons, she opened up about the iconic show’s end.
She was asked on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast when she thinks the show will end. She said that the end could come surprisingly soon. In Nancy Cartwright’s opinion, The Simpsons will end with Season 40. That’s just a few years away. Fox has already renewed it for seasons 37, 38, 39, and 40. Season 38 premieres this fall, leaving just two more seasons if Nancy Cartwright is correct.
Showrunner Reveals Plans For Final Episode
Nancy Cartwright stressed that it was her opinion that the show would end soon. However, it’s something that’s been discussed for a while. But according to showrunner Matt Selman, The Simpsons won’t have an emotional series finale like so many other shows do before they go off the air.
“We did an episode about a year and a half ago that was like a parody of the series finale. We jammed every possible series finale concept into one show, so that was sort of my way of saying we’re never going to do a series finale,” he told TheWrap earlier this year. “If the show ever did end, there’s no finale, it would just be a regular episode that has the family in it.”
Nancy Cartwright predicted the show will end with 40 seasons. However, she made it clear that she’s open to staying with The Simpsons for as long as Fox wants, as long as all of the voice actors are still alive. Tell us in the comments if you think it’s time for the iconic show to end.
