‘General Hospital’ James Patrick Stuart Talks Leaving Hollywood Behind
Valentin Cassadine has been coming and going back and forth in Port Charles for years. At times, he has either been sneaking around, lurking in the shadows, or has been a main part of the community. While the character has taken breaks from General Hospital, the man behind the character, James Patrick Stuart, has also taken a break from Hollywood.
James Patrick Stuart, Previously Known For All My Children, First Joined General Hospital Back In 2016
Stuart is the son of Chad Stuart, who was one-half of the 1960s British Invasion duo Chad & Jeremy. As an actor, he started his career in soaps playing Will Cortlandt on All My Children. Over the years, he’s been part of a number of other shows, including Still Standing, Hot in Cleveland, and The Villains of Valley View.
In 2016, Stuart took on the role of Valentin Cassadine on General Hospital, initially presented as a character known as “Theo.” In July 2024, viewers saw Valentin leave the serial to go on the run with his daughter, Charlotte.

At the time, Stuart used that time to make a change. He and his wife, Jocelyn, left Los Angeles behind to live in Portland.
Valentin Has Since Returned To Port Charles, But That Didn’t Mean Stuart Left Portland Behind
The following November, Stuart posted a pic of himself and his mother, sharing, “This lovely woman who looks like my sister is my mom visiting from England. I got [to] show her a few of the prettiest parts of my new home state of Oregon.”
The following year, Stuart spoke with Soap Opera Digest, sharing that Valentin’s sporadic appearances made the change possible. At the time, he noted, “[It] did actually give Jocelyn and me a chance to remodel our house, move in and settle into the Pacific Northwestern vibe.”

Valentin has since returned to the soap, with Stuart continuing to play the character. However, this doesn’t mean that Stuart left Portland behind. In a recent post shared back in March, the actor revealed that he simply commutes. As he shared, complete with a photo of himself, “Home in Portland after a full week filming @GeneralHospital . Had a blast working with @lldubs — and we’ve got some great stuff coming up. Hope you’ll be watching.”

Please GH, quit losing characters. I’ve been watcing since we moved to Japan in the early 1980’s. The characters are perfect now except for Cullum the evil personified person who needs to be killed off. I love GH. keep writing well!!
GH writers are going too far with thugs targeting teens. Also, they need to confer with real life legal and medical professionals instead of making up unrealistic things. The storyline about the other driver re Jordan’s self-caused accident leaving the scene of an accident would get thrown out in a heartbeat by a magisterial judge. There was not a collision between the vehicles, so the other driver did not leave the scene of an accident, plus the crash would have been behind the other driver who wouldn’t have seen it. Also, no one who is aware of an accident is legally required to report it or even stop and render aid. Hypothetically, Jordan could have run the other driver completely through the guardrail, and they could have been injured or killed. This entire storyline is ridiculous. Even though GH is just a daytime soap, there needs to be some reality, not make believe fantasies.
