Stephen Colbert’s Late Show is set to soon come to an end. As fans continue to watch the show in the meantime, the series has big news to share. The series recently won an award, and it isn’t the only award the show has seen after it was announced that the end was near.

The Final Episode Of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show  To Air In May 2026

Colbert officially took over the New York-based Late Show in 2015, succeeding David Letterman. Previously, he was known for hosting Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report.

Recently, however, it’s been announced that CBS would be retiring the Late Show format. This would ultimately bring Colbert’s program to an end. Currently, the last episode is expected to air on May 21, 2026.

While the series is about to meet its end in a few months, The Late Show is still getting recognition. Recently, the 2026 Producers Guild Awards, which were held on February 28, honored Colbert’s show in the category of “Outstanding Producer of Live Entertainment, Variety, Sketch, Standup & Talk Television.”

The Late Show Has Won Quite A Few Awards In 2025 & 2026

This is the first time that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has won out in that category. As noted by CinemaBlend, the series had actually been nominated seven times over the past eight years. Prior to last year, the only “noteworthy” awards that the series earned were two Telly Awards and an ICG Publicists award.

In 2025, however, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert started to pick up steam. Notably, the series won two Primetime Emmys in 2025, for “Outstanding Talk Series” and “Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series (Jim Hoskinson).” In addition, the series also earned “Best Variety or Sketch Series” as a 2025 Online Film and Television Association TV Award.

As the outlet noted, it’s likely that fans will see the series earn a few more awards should this trend continue. It was also noted that, for the most part, the series hasn’t done much to intentionally draw in more attention. However, Colbert’s handling of the show coming to an end might have endeared people at this time.
