Jim Carrey recently caught fans off guard with his latest appearance at the César Awards. Some fans were worried that he looked like a completely different person. Jim Carrey Received Lifetime Achievement Award At The 51st César Awards

Carrey is an actor known for a career spanning decades, appearing in films including Ace Ventura and The Mask. After years of stepping away from the limelight and keeping a low profile since around 2018, he’s recently returned to the public eye.

Carrey appeared at the 51st César Awards, which is considered a French version of the Oscars, in Paris on February 26, 2026. For his work in comedy, he was granted a lifetime achievement award.

As previously reported, after seeing media of him at the event, some fans were worried about Carrey’s appearance, noting that he looked completely different. As many noted, even his eyes appeared to be different colors.

Fans came up with different explanations as to why Carrey looked different at the time. Some believed it was due to aging, Carrey having work done, or even just the effect of the angle or light. However, some fans mused a more surrealistic explanation for the change in appearance.

The Story Drew Comparisons To Previous Urban Legends

On social media, theories, memes, and even heated debates revolved around the idea. Versions of the story ranged from Carrey hiring a body double to conspiracy theories about clones. This also brought comparisons to the infamous “Paul is Dead” urban legend. The conspiracy theory claimed that musician Paul McCartney was replaced with a lookalike at some point.

On X, many people discussed the story, from sharing memes to refuting the claims. As one person wrote, “Y’all see one weird angle, one bad photo, and suddenly it’s clones and body doubles. If Jim Carrey had been ‘replaced,’ there’d be actual evidence, not memes and cropped screenshots.” Another wrote, “The theories that they replace artists with their clones are so funny. Because why would they do that with Jim Carrey or Paul McCartney, but not with figures like the royalty or politicians.”

As Yahoo Entertainment noted, various outlets confirmed that Carrey was indeed in attendance. At the very least, there were no doubts reported from other attendees that it was him. Ultimately, it was highlighted that it made sense for Carrey to look different after keeping his distance from the public eye.

That said, the outlet expressed that this story showed fans still care about Carrey after all these years to grow concerned about him. It was also noted that Carrey himself hadn’t addressed these viral rumors, either.
