Vance is an American politician who currently serves as the 50th vice president of the United States alongside President Donald Trump. He previously served as Ohio’s representative in the U.S. Senate.
JD and his wife are currently in Milan, Italy. The two are representing the U.S. delegation to the 2016 Winter Olympic Games.

With the event giving many athletes a few moments to speak with the world at large, Vance recently issued a statement concerning those who wanted to talk politics. Speaking with CNN, he noted, “Yes, you’re going to have some Olympic athletes who pop off about politics. I feel like that happens at every Olympics.” CNN journalist Kit Maher shared a video of Vance’s comments on social media.
However, Vance felt that these Olympians should reserve their focus on athletics. He continued, “My advice to them would be to try to bring the country together, and when you’re representing the country, you’re representing Democrats and Republicans.”
Vance Still Felt That These Athletes Were Still Doing ‘A Great Job’ During The Games
As the outlet shared, Vance continued, “You’re there to play a sport, and you’re there to represent your country and hopefully win a medal. You’re not there to pop off about politics.”
Vance also shared that these athletes should expect a bit of “pushback” when dealing with politics. That said, he still felt that most of the athletes were doing “a great job,” noting that the entire country is behind them. He also ultimately shared that doing their sport well would bring the country together.

As noted by Entertainment Weekly, several American Olympic athletes have discussed politics have discussed immigration as of late. Skier Hunter Hess, for example, received a reaction from President Trump after sharing having “mixed emotions” representing the United States. Taking to Truth Social, Trump referred to Hess as “a real Loser.”
This also comes out following Vance himself becoming the subject of a viral moment when he and his wife, Usha, appeared to be booed during a Canadian broadcast of their appearance at the games. Recently, NBC issued a statement over allegations of editing when viewers didn’t hear this during their coverage of the story.
