CBS News Producer Abruptly Resigns In Explosive Letter
Who hasn’t dreamed of quitting a job by leaving a harsh note about everything that was wrong with the company? One CBS News producer did just that in a letter that immediately went viral. Keep reading to find out more about the explosive resignation letter.
Mass Exodus At CBS After Staff Meeting
Changes at CBS have been brewing since the summer when its parent company, Paramount Global, merged with Skydance Media. Bari Weiss took over as editor-in-chief of the network’s news division after the merger. It’s been chaos ever since. The merger resulted in hundreds of layoffs within Paramount Skydance, including some at the network.

The two anchors of CBS Evening News abruptly resigned shortly after Bari Weiss took over. Amid rumors that Gayle King was leaving in May, CBS Mornings host Tony Dokoupil was promoted to anchor the evening news program.
Bari Weiss reportedly had a staff meeting last month where she basically gave employees the option to get on board or get out. Now, the New York Post revealed that several staffers took the network up on their buyout offers.

According to the outlet, eleven employees left CBS News after accepting the buyout offers, with more exits coming. A news producer was among the staffers who took the money and ran. But not before sending an explosive note about their exit. The letter quickly went viral and gave a glimpse at the discontent inside CBS News since Bari Weiss took over.
News Producer Abruptly Resigns In Explosive Letter
The news division at CBS hit another major setback when a producer abruptly resigned in an explosive letter. New York Times reporter Ben Mullin shared screenshots on social media of the note producer Alicia Hastey wrote upon their resignation.
“It is with sadness that I write to tell you that I am taking a buy out and today was my last day in the Broadcast Center. I joined the network four years ago with gratitude and optimism and I want to leave you with these thoughts only as a reminder of things I know you already know,” Alicia Hastey wrote. She added that she was “proud” of the work she did on the show, but it had become “impossible” to tell good stories.

“The truth is that commitment to those people and the stories they have to tell is increasingly becoming impossible. Stories may instead be evaluated not just on their journalistic merit but on whether they conform to a shifting set of ideological expectations — a dynamic that pressures producers and reporters to self-censor or avoid challenging narratives that might trigger backlash or unfavorable headlines.”
“The very excellence we seek to sustain is hindered by fear and uncertainty,” the explosive letter said. The former producer didn’t specifically mention Bari Weiss. Stay tuned for more exits from CBS News amid a changing media landscape.
