Olympic Athlete Confesses To Cheating After Victory

Viewers were horrified when Olympic legend Lindsey Vonn crashed just seconds into the women’s downhill ski event on February 8. The crash came a week after she tore her ACL in a previous spill. Crashes and injuries are common in sporting events, but a cheating confession is highly unusual. An athlete who competed in the biathlon immediately confessed to cheating after victory.
Norwegian Sturla Holm Lægreid, 28, came in third place in the men’s 20km biathlon on Tuesday. His victory speech turned chaotic when he openly confessed to cheating. Despite winning a Bronze medal, the athlete said it was the worst week of his life. After thanking his parents and supporters, he thanked one person who he said might be watching: his ex-girlfriend.
The Big Confession
Holding back tears, Sturla Holm Lægreid revealed that he began dating the unnamed woman about six months ago. “Three months ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life and was unfaithful,” he said through tears. He confessed to his girlfriend just before the Olympics, and she understandably dumped him.
The tear-filled interview immediately went viral. The incident was posted on Reddit, and viewers did not hold back.

His Girlfriend Reacts To His Confession
Sturla Holm Lægreid didn’t name the woman he cheated on. He said during a later press conference that he hoped to win her back with his public confession. The unnamed ex broke her silence in an interview with the Norwegian outlet VG.
Call me old fashioned but I don’t think telling the world you cheated on your girlfriend right after you win an Olympic medal is the best idea.

“I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it. We have had contact and he is aware of my opinions on this,” the ex-girlfriend said.
She added, “[I am grateful] to my family and friends who have embraced me and supported me during this time. Also to everyone else who has thought of me and sympathized, without knowing who I am.” According to PEOPLE magazine, the woman wishes to remain anonymous.
