CBS Removes All Signs Of Stephen Colbert Amid Cancellation
CBS announced in July the shocking decision to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Comedian Stephen Colbert took over the late-night show from David Letterman. He previously hosted The Colbert Report on Comedy Central. Now it seems the network is removing all signs of Stephen Colbert. Keep reading for all the details.
Stephen Colbert Reveals Final Air Date
Stephen Colbert took over the late-night show in 2015. The cancellation was a complete shock. CBS revealed that the show would end in May. A final air date has finally been revealed. The Stephen Colbert Show goes off the air on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The network hasn’t revealed what, if anything, will take its place.

Stephen Colbert recently addressed this looming exit. “You can do comedy a lot of different places. There’s no place like the Ed Sullivan Theater, but it’s really the people. That’s really what I care about. That’s really what I’ll miss more than anything, and we’ll do something else together, but it feels real now. I’m not thrilled with it,” he said on Seth Meyers’ late-night show, as reported by Deadline.
CBS Removes All Signs Of Host Amid Cancellation
Stephen Colbert has done his best to keep it business as usual on the show’s remaining episodes. He still takes aim at the Trump administration, but has largely kept quiet about his feelings toward CBS. The network cited cost-cutting as the reason for the cancellation.
A shocking new report claims that the network’s broadcasting center in New York City has already begun erasing Stephen Colbert. A source told the National Enquirer that the comedian’s photos have already been taken off the walls. “It’s like he was never there, like The Late Show never existed at all,” the insider said.
Furthermore, the show’s staff is allegedly no longer included in communications from the network. The network also isn’t planning a huge send-off for the longtime host. An insider claimed that some of the biggest names on the network, including Tony Dokoupil and Gayle King, wouldn’t have attended anyway.

Fans Still Confused By Late-Night Show Ending
Stephen Colbert’s cancellation came amid a merger between CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global and Skydance Media. The merger was approved in August, just weeks after The Stephen Colbert Show was canceled.
Fans are still confused about the reason behind the cancellation and vented on Reddit.
- “Sad for him but he’ll land on his feet.”
- “There’s still time to reverse this. The merger’s done. Paramount doesn’t have to keep kissing their a**es.”
- “I’m just devastated because we really enjoy his show & his humor”
- “Rip CBS, hopefully more people follow suit with cancelling the network who bent over for trump.”
- “I hope he goes back to a version of the Colbert Report and really skewers this administration.”
- “Paramount needed Trump’s blessing for its Skydance merger frenzy, and Colbert was a sacrificial lamb to get FCC sign-off.”
- “People should be angrier about his firing. When it was first announced, there was some ambiguity (or at least deniability) about whether it was political or not. But after the Kimmel fiasco it became 100% clear that it was a political act and thus should draw similar levels of outrage.”
