Dan Bongino recently announced he was departing the Trump administration late last year. Since then, it’s been teased that he would be making a return to Fox News. Notably, the media personality already has quite a history with the network.

Bongino, who started his career as an officer for the New York City Police Department, served as the 20th deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In late 2025, he announced he would leave the position in early January 2026.

In addition, Bongino is known for his work as a podcaster and in broadcasting. He previously hosted Fox News’ Unfiltered with Dan Bongino until 2023. He also hosted The Dan Bongino Show for Rumble.

Following his one-year stint for the FBI under Trump, Bongino is returning to Fox News as a contributor. The New York Times‘ media reporter Michael Grynbaum reported this news.

As the outlet shared, Bongino’s return was set to be announced on Hannity. It was noted that Bongino previously expressed that he missed his previous life as a media personality while appearing on Fox & Friends. At the time, he mused, “I gave up everything for this.”

Bongino Also Recently Had A Prominent Guest On His Rebooted Podcast Series

Reportedly, Bongino will remain the host of his podcast series for Rumble. He recently rebooted the series following his December departure from the FBI.

For his part, President Donald Trump didn’t appear to have much bad blood over Bongino leaving his administration. He had even joined Bongino’s first show after his return to Rumble.

As mentioned, Bongino already has quite a history with the network. He first started to appear on Fox News around 2013 and became an official contributor in 2019. He left the channel in 2023 after hosting his Unfiltered program during his final years with the network.

During the appearance, Trump felt Republicans should “nationalize” the voting process as a reaction to potential votes from illegal immigrants. At the time, he shared, “It’s amazing the Republicans aren’t tougher on it. The Republicans should say, ‘We want to take over, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places.’”

As Grynbaum reported, the Hannity episode announcing Bongino’s return aired on February 9, 2026, at 9 PM ET. According to a source familiar with Mediatie, Bongino’s first appearance will focus on the Nancy Guthrie case.
