It Was A Very Sad End

According to reports, the actor recently went to the emergency room in Oklahoma after experiencing intense pain. They were reportedly diagnosed with shingles.

The actor had reportedly passed away on Sunday, February 8th, 2026. They were 33 at the time of their death.

The actor was identified as former child star, Blake Garrett. Many were introduced to him from the 2006 movie, How to Eat Fried Worms, which was loosely based on Thomas Rockwell’s 1973 book of the same name. He portrayed the character of Plug.

According to TMZ, Blake’s mother, Carol Garrett, shared the tragic news with the outlet. Reportedly, her family is waiting on autopsy results from an Oklahoma medical examiner to determine Blake’s cause of death.

According to Blake’s mother, he had been living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the last three years. He was described as having embraced a sober lifestyle.

Per the outlet, Blake may have been self-medicating to cope with the pain following his shingles diagnosis, according to his mother. She also shared that she believes his death might have been a tragic accident.

Blake Garrett Talked About His Time On How To Eat Fried Worms

Blake was said to have been born in Austin, Texas. At 10 years old, he hit the road with the arena show, Barney’s Colorful World International Tour.

Around the time of the film’s initial release, he spoke with The Oklahoman, noting, “I play the bully’s henchman. But everybody got along on the set.”

Blake continued to paint a picture of what it was like on the film’s set. He shared:

“There were rows of bicycles, and they let me have first pick. There was one scene where we were riding on a gravel road and got to slide to a stop. The guys who could ride worked on that scene. They had a camera on the ground, and in one scene I slid and gravel hit the camera. They really liked that shot, and that’s the one they used in the movie.”

Blake’s work in How to Eat Fried Worms also earned him a Young Artist Award for Best Young Ensemble Cast. Following the film, he appeared to have walked away from screen acting. After speaking with The Oklahoman, the outlet shared that he was interested in football and wrestling.

Since the news of Blake’s death, many fans shared condolences on social media. They noted how they enjoyed watching him in the 2006 film. Some comments included:
